I am prepping for Bimini. My next step in the process is the second bilge.

Do I place this right next to the existing bilge? (looks like there is a gap between the 2 layers of fiberglass so I can screw it in here?)

Or do I place it in the Ski locker?

Just not sure what/where... The added water is really a non issue with my regular boating, so with Bimini in mind, where do I put it?

Beside the existing or in the bilge.

Glueing it down is a better plan than screws. It should have a removable plate to attach to the floor.

I was just thinking one screw to hold it down until adhesive sets. Like a 3/8" if there is room.

That could turn into a fun post ;)

Here is another question on the second bilge, how are folks plumbing the drain? Out beside the first one? Can it be T’d into the original line? Or is it too narrow to handle the flow in an emergency?

I put one in the back area, but if i did it again I'd put one next to the stock pump. lways run a new line for each pump. They are undersized.

Here is a picture of my pump and the thread with some install info. Those embedded slabs are aluminum, not plywood.

I would not t-it to the OEM, a bit more work but so worth it to have a completely independent backup at the end.
Many ways to do it, here is one

I used plastic weld apoxy and used a 2 inch tow ball I had laying around to add weight to the bottom tray until it dried. Mine is in the bilge right infront if the drain plug. I ran a dedicated line out the side of the boat. (Yes drilling that hole was mentally tough).

A water alarm is a great item to have mount it on a piece of 3/4'' material next to the bilge pump and hook the new bilge pump to run when the water alarm float triggers . This would give you piece of mind knowing that you have no water issues like a hose popping loose or the scupper breaking you could catch it early if you have an issue that the pump could not handle.

The rule is marine rated

the watch dog is a cheap option that runs on a 9 volt battery you can extend the sensing pad if needed

While people are asking I have a 4200gph over side pump for filling ballast bags. Seems that would pump more volume quicker then adding a second would if came into an issue?

I would mount it at either a slightly higher or lower elevation than your stock pump,

When we surf it's not uncommon for the bilge to come on, I'd want it at a different level to know if I saw two pumps working I hard a "not normal" issue going on,

I'd also suggest an alarm, although make sure it's loud enough that you can hear it underway,

Do not "T" into existing line. It the original fails you will be pumping water back into the bilge. Two spate lines are the safest way.

I would not "T" it, I put a second bilge in mine and used a "T". Thankfully I tested it first and found that the some of the water returned through the other bilge pump. So I ended up installing another through hull port for the second bilge. It works much better, no leaks.

I don't think you want to "T" it into the existing bilge line. You want maximum capacity if you truly need it, so use a separate hose for the new pump. I put my second pump pretty close to the original pump and glued it down. My second pump works off a float switch and is wired directly to the battery.

Trying to get the hole in the boat to mount the second line 'feels overwhenlming" ....On my model there looks like an intermediate layer of 'plastic plywood' between the engine bay and the outer hull, making it harder to pinpoint the hole and line it up with the pissers! see attached

PS I, like many others, have great fear in putting that hole in the boat :)
