Have about 40 hours on twin 1.8L engines that are used in brackish water mainly. I usually add 1 oz of SaltAWay to the dispenser, flush the starboard engine with water for 7 minutes and then for 30 sec with the SaltAWay mixture. Then switch to the port engine and flush for 7 min with water and 30 secs with remaining SaltAWay mixture. I get foaming with both mixtures but want to reach out to the hive to see what everyone else is doing? Just want to make sure I'm using enough of this stuff.

I just fill the cup up and let it run until clear for the engine. Don't forget to use SaltAway on the rest of the boats and trailer.

Like haknslash, I just follow the directions - fill the cup. I also put Salt-X (West Marine's version - same thing at a lower cost) in a garden chemical mixer hose attachment to spray down the inside and outside of the boat; I do not use my trailer as the boat is in a rack at the marina.

Yep, I fill the reservoir to the 4 oz mark, the top, initially flush with fresh water for about 5 mins, then switch to the salt away stuff until the reservoir is clear.

It makes salt go away.
Like bitch away spray.
It is a mild acid that dilutes 500 to one and dissolves salt residue and deposits.
It is supposed to be ok for sea life

I learned a new a new lesson today. My boat was on the rack and I did the salt treatment to the first motor. While it runs, I wipe down the outside of the boat.

Then I moved the water to the other motor and started the treatment, got out and started wiping down the boat. Then I heard the temperature alarm and it took a second to register that it was my boat, so I looked to see it it was draining, nope, so I jumped on the boat and shut it down.

I removed the nozzle to check flow and it was low, so I went and checked the faucet. Sure enough the idiot next to me shut off my cooling water and left, but then opened it a quarter turn. I hope I didn’t cook anything important.

At least it was a good day on the water, I even towed a sailboat home who had lost steerage and was in distress.

Very unlikely you did any damage. The Yamaha engines are robust and do a good job protecting themselves.

My 2005 sold last year 15 years in salt water a little white residue built up then I used a scotch brite pad cleaned it up and it looked like new. It was only left over night in the water on a few occasions always flushed. Flush with water for a few minutes than salt away for a few minutes 2/3 of the cup filled and it was smaller than the applicator above. I wouldn't empty the salt away completely when light blue it would be used to spray the nozzles and trailer. Now I do every other using dawn dish soap

The 2005 had no zinc anode ?

If left in salt water they get very oxidized like the photo above

Yamaha used better paint on the old ride plates as well you could even see factory writing on it

Im not real happy about the new design with the rudder I run in shallow water and occasionally brush the bottom

Ok, back to the Salt Away question. I use two beers worth of Salt Away. One beer for each engine.
