Got a rope around my impeller shaft it was. Very tight so I limped it to the dock . Got it home got under it removed the grate cut the rope off now I have lose of power on that motor above 3K RPM .... I know it’s probably cavitation but what do I do to fix this what’s the first thing I look for to start trouble shooting this ? I am hoping to be in the water for the 4th

I would check the cooling intakes inside the pump. Does it overheat and goes into limp mode?
Did the rope "cocoon" around the shaft? it could have cracked the intake tunnel that would let's air to be sucked in (and cause cavitation) -air sucked in from the bilge.

Yea it raped around tight .... cut it off with razor blade looks like I got it all . Motor runs and sounds fine dose not over heat runs fine but over 3K it revs up with no power just RPM
I drove around with both motors running just never got that over 3 or 4 K ... Didn’t notice any more water in boat then normal .

So it's either air entering the pump and causing cavitation/impeller slippage (like wheels spinning in mud) or the pump is not pressurizing on the positive pressure side (past the wear ring) - any impeller damage? (unlikely with a rope but could bend the blades?)

ok thanks .... planing on pulling pump when I get home and looking at things better. What or how would air get in the pump ? Other then rope or pieces of trash I didn’t get out what am I looking for ?

If the tunnel is cracked up, it may be small crack (it would let air be sucked in from the bilge). Or if the rope removed sealant from the joints between the intake "shoe" or intake grate and the fiberglass part of the tunnel, or between the transom plate and transom.

If you can stick your phone/camera in there and post some pics, it could be useful, sometimes someone will notice something. It almost sounds like the impeller may be bent/damaged, which wouldbe unsusual with a rope.

So pulled pump & impeller there was some seaweed around the shaft up by the nutted end but look at the little tooth or spike I have hanging from the white nylon plug. Is this my problem? Do I trim and smooth this or just leave it ? I will replace the nylon part but not by the 4th ... what do you think

Any chance you could shine a light in the hole and take a pic back in there? Looking for a possible broken seal and grease.

That looks good to me. I have the same problem, which is why I asked. I checked all that as well. I reassembled and am waiting to put back in the water for a test run. I can't find anything that looks like a concern. I'll watch your thread and see where it goes.

I am betting the little bit of seaweed and crap you had in there may fix you up. It takes an incredibly small amount of crap around the shaft to really mess things up. Yes, your nylon piece there looks like it got melted a bit with a rope, but I doubt that is impacting you much. Check the walls around where the pump goes and if there are no cracks, put it back together and try again...

I agree, this does not look like a cracked tunnel.
What do the splines look like at the end of the impeller shaft?

Splines looked great no marks or wear of any kind ... hoping it was the small amount of weeds that was raped around still ?
