So other than the $2000 price increase and color change, are there any other changes I am missing on the 242X? I was really looking forward to buying at the boat show this year but now its even closer price wise to many other boats.

Based on my research, it’s the exact same boat as the 2018 / 2019

Anyone else notice the bimini fabric is different? My 2019 is solid black the pictures look like this is more of a grey jean like print.

Is it me or are Yamaha's price getting ridiculous? Since I bought my 2014 212x price on the 2020 has increased by over 25%. Yamaha's aren't the deals they used to be. Although I love my Yamaha I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay their current prices.

I was excited to see some updates but, seeing that there was no real updates makes me happy with my '18. I hate getting something new and they drop the next new thing 6-12 months later.

I agree. For 80k i am going to seriously look at other brands now. Regals and Cobalts are now in striking distance price wise.

For someone who just bought a 2019 I am ecstatic that they didn't make any big changes.

We considered Regals, Cobalts, tow boats, etc when we were looking this last time. I will say everything is sky rocketing on price so Yamaha is still cheaper than all of those by quite a bit unless you get a base model with no options. I think you can negotiate some deals on those other boats but they will kill you on other things like accessories, trailers, warranty, etc. I also found if you don't want to bother with selling your existing boat the trade value at a yamaha dealer is way more than trade value at say a Cobalt dealer. I got retail value on my AR240 I traded in so that was a win.

stickers cost a lot ya know!
You ain't joking! Someone put a little half inch scratch on one of my side stickers while the boat was on the trailer at my marina near the beginning of the season (supposedly carrying an outdrive between my boat and another. Security camera view obscured of course!) and when I inquired as to appx sticker cost, dealer said around $750/side (just for two little strips at the waterline on the LSE) and ppl often just claim them on insurance, so they said. Needless to say, I wasn't about to pay out of pocket or make a claim just for the relatively little mark at that point!

You might want to look the part up yourself. We scratched the bid red swoosh on the side of our '18 242x and it's only $62.

So I must have got either the village idiot or the laziest guy in service telling me that $750 price. So far off! I just called them originally because i was naive and trusted them. Doh!

But, you're right. Checking shopyamaha, the sticker is 39 bucks plus 1 hr labor (dealer labor rate $129) if I was to have them do it. I have a detailing shop I do trust, that has worked on my cars in the past, also details boats, and I believe would do it just as well or better for less.

My bad for believing the service guy that gave me the original quote! Fool me once, shame on you (dealer). Fool me twice, shame on me!

Thanks for pointing out the ease with which I could find out the true part price!

Prices have gone up, for sure, but we've been shopping around looking for our next boat (has to be a jet) the last couple of years and found Yamaha has upped their game a lot in the last 2 years for the higher trim models. Overall fit and finish has improved, quality of materials has become more premium, more stylish with the interiors and better finish on the dash and comming inserts, improved reverse jet buckets, articulating keel, etc. In 2017 we were not impressed with Yamaha (seemed too cookie-cutter with no pizzazz for our needs), 2018 improved a fair bit, but 2019 was quite a noticeable change to seating materials, quality, stitching, etc. Adding the mapping features to the screen was a nice touch too.

Things have changed over at Yamaha R&D...I think Vortex and Scarab have taken a bite out of their sales and they're fighting back. Competition is a good thing.

just fyi, service tech where we purchased our boat, (seemed knowledgeable) said only difference between 2019 and 2020 242X was the retainer for the rear boarding ladder (under platform). They switched from the single rubber bungee type to a dual retainer of some sort since they were having issues with the single bungee snapping. We purchased their last remaining new 2019 (not demo), saved 10k+ and we preferred the paint scheme over the 2020 more white color scheme. Of course that is personal preference. Also got the 2019 WakeBooster that includes the slingshot at 999.00 in stock at local dealer. Sounds like you'd need to find one in stock if you still want the package with the board, but maybe still can order either way, my dealer was not sure how new ones will be packaged.

This is great to know. I was going to wait for the boat show to buy a 20 but after looking at some of the prices of the 19, i may jump on that. What should one pay for a delivery fee from the dealer? Should it be the same regardless of dealer?
