For those with an AR230 or similar, what does the ski locker latch engage to keep it closed? I walked by with the T handle up last week and ran into it with my toes and broke the T handle off....yea, it hurt like a MF'er. I bought an exact replacement and I guess I've never noticed that there is nothing for the latch to engage and keep it closed or lock it if you had a locking T handle. Maybe I removed it over the years for some reason.... A photo would be nice.

I missed this post yesterday,

I also don't remember if it just twists under the floor or if there's a metal attachment

I'll try to get a picture tonight after work

Strange. Mine doesn't come close to the lip.

I did not take a picture, but I looked too. Same result. Nothing but the lip.

I saw this post earlier, and thought it was strange, my 06 has a lift style latch, with a stainless sheet metal tab for it to latch to. Camping right now, and the boat is about a mile away, but I’ll try to remember to snap a pic later today when we hit the water. Maybe yours at one time had the stainless tab for your turn style latch... ?? Check for holes where screws would’ve been at one time...? Any chance the original “catch” was longer than the replacement...?

is your locking latch reversed so that the shallow side is trying to swing to lock, when I replaced my cleanout hatch lock I believe it was set up for the shallow side and I had to switch it to the deeper side,

I don't have anything to latch to. Come to think of it, I may have removed the metal that was the latch because I didn't want it to tear the ballast bags that we keep in there.....hmmm. Now that I'm thinking clearly.

so if you take a picture (or lay down in your ski locker) and look at the bottom side of that lip (like I took a picture of and you see the red'ish foam/fiberglass layer) do you see any screw holes or places a latching plate would have been installed ?

I really think the boat was made with nothing there, the latch arm (for lack of a better description) just spins and catches on the lip,

Did you make sure the "latch" arm on the stud is placed so that the low end (not the high end) engages ?

I'm gonna kinda assume @Scottintexas is right, and there likely wasn't a tab for it to catch... guessing mine is just old enough that it has a different design. Is there a chance the latch was installed 180 degrees from where it's supposed to be? I see in the pic that the stem with the latch bar is off center on the latch, which would mean if it's installed 180 degrees from correct, the stem would likely be too far away from the lip that it's supposed to catch.

I just replaced mine the other day because I broke the handle doing the same thing. I put the new one on and aligned it just like the old one so the cam was facing the port side when the handle is in the closed position. I then realized that the cam does not engage at all and I have been wasting my time turning the handle when opening because it didn’t engage on the old one either.

eBay or Amazon has them. Perko or Whiting make identical looking ones. Stock on mine were made by Whiting.

holy cow I didn’t realize how common they were! I though they were specific to the boat. all I see are chrome plated or plastic. Anyone have luck with the plastic handles or finding stainless?

I tried finding stainless but they were either super expensive and/or a different style. I figured since the stock ones on the ski locker were fine I’d just go with the same $30 one since it only broke because I stepped on it.

I mean these things are shot though. They’re so corroded and the are hard to turn. even the lever on the insides are pitted. I figured stainless would be expensive too. Funny thing is that the description for these say “fresh water only”. That’s why I considered the plastic ones but they might take the UV deterioration well either.

Yeah that looks bad. I actually hand pried my ski locker up for like a year because every one I could find said “freshwater only.” Ultimately it looks to me like that just wasn’t cared for properly. If you boat in saltwater, you’ve got to spray everything down after each outing. I don’t boat in saltwater but it is brackish and mine don’t look anything like that.
