I just bot this Ar210 2021 model jet boat. New to jetboat. Have about 4 hrs on it. After a couple of trips, when I flush it, the overheating light came on. Today I went out, no wake for about 5-10 mins, the light came on for that engine again. I head back home and wait for a bit to cool off to flush it, after about 4 mins, the light comes on again.

there are water coming from the pee hole, about the same amount coming out as the working engine. it was warm first and then cold.

I saw the other post about the cooling intake filter. I took it out and there are not even a grain of dirt on it. I checked the propeller there are nothing there either.

I am thinking it’s the thermostats. anything you think that I can check Or should check? I have it on a lift and didn’t want to have to put it on trailer to the dealer. Thinking to call a mobile mechanics but want to do my homework before I do that

Sounds like something restricting the flow. If this is a 2021, it should still be under warranty, I’d haul it to the dealer to diagnose and stay away from independent mobile mechanics so you don’t void the warranty. I know it’s a pain to take it to the dealer and have to wait but you don’t want to risk anything done to it by someone other than the dealer and you would want to preserve warranty in case it’s needed in the 12 months.

The mobile mechanic is from the dealership, just have to pay him trip fees. I guess will talk to the dealer and see what my options are. Thanks for replying and I think it’s good to consider the warranty issue you brought up.

Follow the cooling water line from the pump to the engine. See if there’s a kink in that hose anywhere That would restrict the flow of water.

let me look for the engine diagram and see where it’s. First time looking at this boat.

@Scottma Fine sediment can bypass the filter and accumulate in the cylinder water jackets. If the filter is not clogged and you can run it without overheating, I suggest a long run at higher rpms. That way, perhaps, the cooling system can be flushed.

running just a few hours would have that much sediments to clog it. I am really surprised. But I will try to run it at high rpm. You think I can flush at higher rpm or a bad idea. Thanks

I think I saw a thread of a brand new 252SE someone just bought that is overheating brand new also. Very sorry to hear the new boats are being pushed out and having problems. One of the reasons I got one lightly used with 50 hours a few years old so I wouldn’t have to deal with issues from covid boats being pumped out to meet demand. I hope they get this fixed quickly for you and wish you all the best.

@Scottma I immediately started having overheats with my 2007, thinking it was unaffected by shallow water. I think it would be best to get it on the water and cruise, if you can do it without overheating. In my opinion, on plane would be better for flushing.

Wreks, that may be a bit tough, I am in the canal no wake for about 3 miles. I don’t think I can make it through without overheating. There is a section that is deep about 5-6 ft. I can ramp up and reverse and see if that can flush anything out.

@Scottma 3 miles of shallow canal at no wake? It sounds like you got unlucky and sucked something up in the intake potentially. Just a guess. Maybe something obstructing the intake in the pump case. If you are unable to get in there and pull something out, I would definitely stop running the boat and get the dealer to look at it. A few days or a week without a boat is much better than possibly losing an engine, which means you may be out of commission for a good part of the season. IMHO

EDIT: Unless you can find and resolve the problem, don't think that it will just resolve itself. Better to be safe than sorry!

I agree with Hanging, you blow that eng who knows when or how long it will take to get it fixed. If Yamaha can't get deliveries on time getting a replacement eng might be a while.

smart guy to buy a slightly used one. I am not surprise after what I saw. One of the bolts under the boat for the intake screen I thought wasnt screwed in all the way (the longer one in the front), it turns out, they didn’t drill the hole deep enough and they just bolt it in half way and there is about 1/2 inches sticking out. Luckily it is not caught anything. I put in a smaller one until I take it to the dealer.

COVID Yamaha workmanship I must say.

Ok I am taking it to the dealer. A pain but don’t want to damage the engine.

@Scottma It is just not Covid workmanship. My boat has a manufacturer date of 1/2020. There were some things that I need to shore up, clean out and adjust. Also some of the weather stripping was jacked as well. Once I got past all of that, which was an annoyance, the boat has been bullet proof and fantastic.

I do agree though that for the kind of money we all pay for these Yamaha boats that the workmanship and detail on a lot of them is not great at all. They can and should do better.

I had the same bolt sticking out in my 212. I was able to screw it back in it just wasn't tightened. My boat was built in March just when covid started.

@Scottma Here is what may need to be done to correct the problem, Yamaha overheating Since your boat is new, and if you flushed the engines after using it, it is very unlikely that salt created this problem. Once you get it corrected, I suggest trailering it to a launch where the water is deep enough.

Just to give everyone an update. Took it to the dealer and it was running hotter than it should and than overheat. Came to find out it was the exit hose from the thermostat. Yamaha put in a hose that is about 5” longer than it should. So it kinked up when it get hot. So they cut it shorter, the far side was 5” too longer and the closer side was 2-3”.
Now back to my originally comment, what kind of quality control Yamaha has? Facepalm.
