so i was set on a yamaha ar190 when i came across a yamaha 2011 ar210. 25900 not sure if thats a good price. condition is like a 9/10 the dealer said. im going to go look at it next week. they said the hours are unkown but the way to tell is by the wear and tear on the steering wheel and seats. is this a better boat than the ar190 im paying 31k out the door for. with 2.99 finance. idk out the door on the yamaha ar210. any pointers or reviews would be great. im 21 years old and in sales myself. i always was told buy used at wholesale and sell retail. never buy new. but i just bought a new superjet and i know everything done to to it. i just want to make sure im getting into something smart. i was going to do the scarab but i bailed bccause bad reviews on the engine and at 42k out the door on a boat listed at 48k loaded.

Welcome aboard!
The hours can only be seen by hooking up a laptop with the YDS --Yamaha Diagnostic Software. I would be cautious of a Yamaha dealer that told you hours are unknown.

I'm sure many others that are more in tune with pricing will add some opinions soon.

Where do you live? You might want to update your profile with your location.

Welcome aboard @Christian Sciaulino glad that you found us and decided to join. Personally, I'd get the bigger boat over a newer boat. Especially if it costs less. But that's just me. The 190's look like a great boat, but several guys have bought and sold them quickly realizing that they needed a bigger boat. So it really just depends on your needs. Either way I think you'll enjoy the boat. Good luck with your search!!!

Buy your second boat first. If you are any bit into the power of the boat, stay away from both the single engine and the 210. Great boats, but why not go even more powerful? Of course, that's just me. There are plenty of boats out there, you just need to be patient and ready to move when one jumps out at you. Be prepared to travel to get or, or ship it. I shipped both mine, bought sight unseen. Perhaps a dumb move, but I Was comfortable with the leg work I did. My second one I bought off a guy on the other forum. For reference? a 2008 SX230 bought in April, 2013 for 23,800. 26 hours on it, confirmed. Warranted until last month, as it was a "new" purchase in 2011. As you see, deals are out there. I guarantee if you get the 190 and enjoy it, you will be looking to unload it in a year to get something bigger - and at a substantial loss. I can afford new, but I still buy used. Let someone else take the depreciation hit. Go used. Go for power.

Ok.....I'm not familiar with them as I bought and get serviced from Stumpy's in Neptune, but they no longer sell new boats. As Mel stated, a Yamaha dealer should be able to pull the hours off of each motor with the YDS software. I would also be suspect if they say that they can't/won't.

Good luck in the search.

@Christian Sciaulino .... I so compliment your exhaustive search to try & insure you buy the "right" boat.

@OCMD gives you wonderful advice and real TRUISMS ! ....... "Buy your second boat FIRST !"

I didn't do that same amount of research when we bought our SeaRay. It was an upscale model, but it had tons "wrong" with it.
First, it was 21.5' but it was 1) Too small for Barbie and me .... and 2) It was "laid out" like crap.
I could go on and on ..... but the point is we took a "$ hit" when we traded it in on the first Yamaha, less than 2 years later.
If I have spent more time, investigating and asking questions like you, I might not have made the mistake begin with.
Glad you're here ! And wishing you a really Great Boating year ahead ! Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

Thanks mikey, apreciate. Being 21 I dont want to make the wrong choice. I also trying to stay in a range where i could afford a payment on a new truck in 4 years down the road. I love the yamaha but i think everyone is right do the 21 footer. i just dont trust buying used. like idk it scares me. boats scare me lol. Ive had about 10 boats so far and i buy and fix them and flip them. some are winners others are not. lol

Christian .. You're most welcome. My only advice is this: The deal's gotta "Feel right."
I have never purchased a new car in 70 years. I have purchased some relatively "expensive" cars, but never 1 new.
But every deal except for 2 "felt right." The 2 that were not "good" never "felt right." I felt like I was rushing a decision. And I was.
The best deal - and the CRAZIEST deal - is when I purchased a "Previously Owned" (ie, USED) Lexus, wayyyyyyyyy "north" price-wise of a brand new Yamaha 242LS, only from photos on the Internet, and did so in 30 minutes, having never seen the car, and then paid for it the next day (I did this deal on a Sunday) completely by wiring (ACH'ing) the funds in total to the dealer. Now the facts are - It was a CERTIFIED car, the dealer was the world's largest Lexus dealer, 700 miles away, and they voluntered that if I didn't like the car, they'ld glad give me my money back on the spot and happily drive me back to the airport. I never laid eyes on the car for 6 weeks (things were going on, and this was a relatively highly-optioned, extremely low mileage car in a color that just almost never appears.

So, you are doing good. Ask lots of questions. There are members here who have the model you will be considering and they can tell you what to look out for. Also ....... Don't NOT CONSIDER looking out of state ! I know that is a double negative. I have found many wonderful dealers who are not local to me.
The way you're going about this you ARE going to find a deal that "FEELS RIGHT" to you ! Keep looking, keep asking. You're on the right track.
That's my "30 second skiiny advice" I have to try and help you. Good Luck your way - Mikey Luleejian - Lake Oconee, GA

@Christian Sciaulino if you want to entertain... Consider too the AR230 you will dig the extra space. My pals 21' sea Ray just doesn't have quite the room / storage for things that my sx230 has. Food for thought and to build on @OCMD point go for extra $ in your pocket so you can add on the extras that you can research here on this great site.

LOL ........... naw - wish I could .............. you are so right. It was a Noble Spinel Mica LS460. Just about this color but a ton prettier and somewhat darker.
18000 miles. We still love her too. She has just made it past 40K in miles driven.

I bought 2005 ar230ho 4 years ago. I have been able to do all the maintenence and have not had any major issues that have made me lose a day on the water. I love the boat and agree to buy the bigger boat first.
