I always have water in the water compartment, normal just when washing the boat or back on board after the ski. However it is difficult to drain it or using a sponge between all pipes. I bought this pump 20 $ on Amazon, it so easy to use and like to store my boat with very little amount of water. After a saison, I am very happy with this investment
