    A mesh network is only good as the connection strength of the next mesh connection. Another words if you connect to a weak signal, as @Julian mention, then that will be a very slow bottle neck in your network back to the main router.

    Sounds like the problem may exist in your cable modem or ISP is dropping your internet. I would plug a pc directly into the cable from your modem, then Ping google.com every so often. If you get any no replys then call your ISP and let them know.

    Either a nick in extension or bad ground the GFI should be tripping. They will trip on a 4-5 mA difference between hot and neutral wire.

    Extension cord containing a neutral will not induce magnetic flux to induce voltage onto the fence. The neutral will have an opposite magnetic field and the net field will be basicly zero. The cause of the voltage was most likely due to a poor ground at the source the cord was feeding.
