$2,500 a month for boat storage?

Mine is free..... its called mamas storage. You just have to bring the grand kids for a visit as payment. I have not and will not live somewhere with an hoa. Most are controlled by people with authority complexes.... i deal with them in my current job from time to time and they think they are god in their subdivisions!

my mama is a freeloader. she lives with me. ;)

@Betik you need to move where there is no HOA or move out into the country with some land like we did. We found land and built the house and the toys came later. Bought our first camper and then shortly there after came the Yamama and we needed at least a roof over both of them. I knew if I was gonna pay for storage I'd much rather pay on a loan to build something on my own property and it be an investment or home improvement. So we built a garage for the boat and under the same roof have a carport for the camper and it's worked out great. We had to build it to match the house with brick exterior and the same pitch in the roof. It's slightly taller then our single story house since it has 16' walls. The garage door is 14' tall and 10.5 wide. I'll have to get pics later if you want them.

I thought about Mel's subdivision, but we will still have to live in Frisco so the kids go to school here. And my wife works in Irving, so it will make her commute unbearable.

Hmm, $30,000/year. You can buy a lot out here for that, build a nice barn, insulated, power, water, and land. Yes, you would have a POA, but if you promised a house to follow, and allowed room for it, the barn is an asset on property that would give you the boat right at the lake, or within 4 miles of the ramp, and be stored safely. That lot would probably be, depending on size, between $30K and $60K, and the barn would certainly be less than $10K. I know you could find a lot in the $30K or less range for 2 acres. So in less than 15 months, your in the black and saving $2500 per month! Just an observation, the boat is now outside your bedroom and living room, but in July, it will be two miles away from your bedroom and living room, at at a house that is empty. Even building in the country and getting 100% of what you want but with the costs of driving back and forth to work, that $2500 per month would offset those costs and pay you for the inconvenience of driving daily...but the drive daily would suck nonetheless...if you had to make it. Another idea, find a warehouse area, or older building that isn't renting, and store the boat there with utilities. My guess is that you can rent a small shop or building structure for maybe less than the $2500/month too. That way you participate on appreciation of the property. But the house doesn't sound that perfect to me. Neither does the new house...can you get out of the contract and get one built to the spec's you want, with a garage for the boat? My bet is that it won't cost you $2500/mo more to do just that, will it?

I am not sure how safe it is to leave the boat out there without us actually living there. Do you really think there are a lot of lots available for $30K ? Maybe I should take a look when I come to pick up the seat cushion.

@Betik now now, I'm only at $365 per month, but that includes trailer storage. You would in luck though, there's a spot between me and @tocelli Plus, there are four 24' Yamahas on D dock alone so your boat wouldn't be lonely.

That cannot be right!!! aren't you renting a lift from them ? or do you have your own lift ? by looking online I see @270 for the the slip + $150 for lift

Bought my lift used for $1500 on craigslist (renting lifts are a huge profit center for these folks) and you get 1 month free when you pay all 12 up front. However, using your example, if you paid all upfront you would effectively be at $385 per month.

Lift is still worth $1500 or more so I look at it as more of a deposit.

My HOA in Tahoe won't allow boats to be stored out side. My neighbor has a rental house in town and he has it written in his lease that he can store his boat over there for the winter. This seems to be a good deal for him...I'm sure you could arrange a similar thing in your situation. Rent the house, store the boat, and let it appreciate...

another problem solved by JETBOATER.NET

The tenant agreed to keep the boat here .... see attached

Betik, did you guys new house get finished and have you already moved?

At some point in June. There is optimistic news........
the master bedroom closet is 6x18 and the garage is 21x21, so potentially i have enough length for a 24 footer. Now the only realistic obstacle is to get the HOA approve my garage door opening to extent from 7x8 to a 8x9. I have have 2 years to accomplish that. I am thinking to wait until the builder is completely out and then apply for the permit.

Betik, remember that the boat on the trailer, with tongue folder, is longer than the boat. I think it is something like 24’3” in my barn. I can get your the exact measurement of my barn, hut the host itself is shorter by a smidge.

I couldn’t find the now clearance photo, I’ll keep looking!

@txav8r please do not worry, I am only concerned about the width and height. I have I have close to 27 in lenght once I break in the closet ( which claire has already approved).

BTW, can I stop by at some point in february to pick up the middle section of the back seats? I also need to bring you that rum from Bimini. It will go bad LOL

Not sure if it's been said, but fence off private access to the boat and back yard. Rent the place out. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Anytime betik. I haven’t made any trips into Frisco except for Christmas shopping and I just forgot...again. We’re close by home the next two weeks. I just got the coach back after a complete engine swap. We may make a few days out somewhere but home most of the month.
