Hello to all
i have installed a couple of tachs, Sierra 58255P -Amega
in the settings i have it set to 6P as instructed
however, i feel the RPM reading is not correct all all
at wide open i am reading 3400 RPM
i know this is not correct.
has any one have any experience with these gages?

It’s been a while but... I believe the ground wire is in the center on the original and replacement tachs but the 12v+ and the sender wires may be reversed. This probably isn’t your problem if you are getting a reading

Try switching the range Selector Switch to the 3p 6c setting.

And save your OEM ones, they have a lifetime warranty or service agreeemnt or something.

If you call Faria they should be able to rebuild them for a small service charge.

And I used the 3c-6p setting.
.Thanks
i called Sierra, they don't even the 135HP listed. seems odd.

Do those engines have wasted spark? a different setting on the tach may apply... It ought to be a pulse signal... Does that RPM Match something? (Is it half or 2/3rds of expected value?)

Sounds like he’s getting half the rpm value.

This is what the gauges I used had for choices. Being two stroke three cylinder engines the 3 p 6 c setting worked. Don’t ask me to explain why in a coherent manner. ;)

I would suggest trial and error on the other configuration positions. Maybe the knob is pointing to the wrong setting?

Yes, he needs to switch the selector to 3p6c instead of 6p.

I take it from his reply that he understands this. You, I’m not so sure about ;)

LOL, You are right! Thanks for your patience!

i change it to 3P6C, it appears better, it goes up to 6500 now instead of 3500. still not sure if is correct.

thanks for all the feed back

What is it reading at idle? Is the boat in the water or on a trailer?

I think max rpm is somewhere around 6800–7000. I wouldn’t expect to see max rpm if the engines are cold.

.
boat is on water while on the lift
idle is about 1400
ill test max this weekend

did some testing on Sunday.
idle is about 1500 and full throttle it pegged the needle at 7000
it appears the adjustment is incremental, i will test again next week and just backup the dial a bit

Idle for me (in the water and warmed up) is 1250. Though it bounces around quite a bit.
My manual says max HP is at 6750 rpm.

Is the boat new to you? How do the spark plugs look?
