Having trouble with Yamaha Diagnostic System on my 2007 SX210. Getting a communication error between PC and ECM. Error message says:

'Communication error occurred between the PC and ECM. Check that the main switch is ON and that the communication cable is connected properly.'

Already verified main switch is on and cables seem connected. Using latest software version. Boat runs fine otherwise.

Has anyone encountered this? Any tips to get the diagnostic software communicating again?

Thanks for any help!"

I have a 2008 and this is the message I receive when I forget to change the YDS USB device to COM1 in the Windows driver settings. I don't have access to the YDS cable right now so this is from memory (sorry if the details aren't quite accurate). You should see a device in Windows Device Manager under "Ports." If you right click on the device an choose properties, you can change the Port by going to Port Settings and choosing Advanced (the names may not be exact but hopefully it's enough to guide you). Eventually you'll see some place to change COM* to COM1.

If I remember correctly you have to bump the engine over with the ignition to send power to the ECM to get the YDS to connect.

This is very helpful I hope. I did not do that. I turned the ignition to on, but did not bump the engine. I did go to Com Port one, so I was out of options, but this is something new to try. I will let you know thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you for the reply, I did go to com1, as I had read another post prior to my trying this that could be the issue, as it is not intuitively obvious as a software install. Encouraging that you got it working. I’m going to try bump in the engine as suggested by the other gentleman. Thank you again.

Bingo! Bumping the ignition (engage engine without completely turning it over) was the answer! we almost gave up because we did not see this anywhere in the guidance or instructions or elsewhere in the forum. Thank you and I hope this helps others.
