HI Everyone,

I have owned my Yamaha AR240 for about 4 years and when I got the boat there was a lot of learning to be done. My concerns today are with regards to a high pitched alarm that is sounded each time I turn on each engine. I can't remember if this happened when we first bought the boat but I can say the alarm was not happening for the past 3 years and suddenly began happening during our last lake outing.

Is this alarm normal? There are no messages displayed on the LCD when the alarm sounds, only the noise. Since the alarm is newly present I presume something changed or that I need to address an issue. If anyone can help me assess this problem I would be greatly appreciative.

Justin

how long does it sound for ?
does each engine cause it to sound or is it only associated to one engine ?

just a wild guess, could it be your stock depth reader alerting you to shallow water (maybe it's become broken) ???

The alarm only sounds for a brief 1 second or so..I don't think it's the depth gauge because it alarms in the middle of the lake as well. Both engines make the same alarm. When the key is turned and ignition occurs, the alarm sounds and then turns off. No LCD message, no further alarming, but is definitely a change from these past several months with no such alarms during startup.

My 2010 AR240 makes that sound as each engine is started. I just tune it out now. It goes out about the same time as the tach self test is complete.

Thanks for your replies.

I am just worried that since the alarm wasn't happening before, and now is happening, that something has changed and I just don't know it? The engines seem to perform correctly still but it all just seems strange. I appreciate all of your advice though. Any other suggestions would always be welcomed.

Mine has always done it - never questioned it since I suspected it was just confirmation that the alarm is working. Kinda' like when you start a car and all the idiot lights come on as you turn the ignition. Confirmation that the bulbs etc. are all still there.

Mine beep/screech for a couple seconds at startup, which I take is normal (albeit annoying). The other things that could keep it making noise would be an engine alarm (error code from the engine) or the shallow water warning alarm.
- Engine alarms will continue until you push a button on the tach to clear it
- Shallow water will do the same, but the depth can be changed as to when it's triggered.
