When leveling for the oil change do you level the floor of the boat or the engine cover?

Just read in the Yamaha service manual to make the boat horizonal to check the oil so am I correct that the "boat floor" needs to be level to check or change the oil?

Never used a level when checking, but I've always checked when in the water after it cools for a bit, assuming that's the level they mean. Not sure if the engine or the floor would be level when floating (I'll have to check that next time out to see).

I assume the floor would be level in the water and that’s why I’m asking. If the floor is level the motor seems tipped back and if the motor is level she’s down in front. Just want to make sure I’m putting in the correct amount of oil
