My new 242 limited has the insulation falling out on the motor cover, anyone have this happen yet. Also the strap that holds the windshield fell off.

My dealer said they will fix this under warranty.

My windshield retaining strap has been problem free, however multiple others have complained about the insulation falling off.

IF the boat's already at the dealer, have them fix it, but most of us have just used a can or two of 3M adhesive spray to make it stick. I personally also found some rubber washers to push onto the studs to help keep it from falling down again.

I used 3M Foam Fast 74 Spray Adhesive Orange - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BBV28. Its orange so don't overspray. 3M 90 did not work for me.

I also got all-thread couplers, stainless ~1 inch bolts, and fender washers and used the seat cover bolts coming from above to hold the foam up. Don't have pictures but this did the trick. There are 4 along the platform.

I highly agree with @Ric Moseley!! I used those seat studs (along with some 3M spray) and haven't had a problem since.

I liked the 3M 90 because it was clear. Key was to spray both pieces wait a minute then put together. I tried to peel apart and the foam was going to tear so I guess it's holding for now.

Yes. You have to wait before sticking the foam together. And you have to spray both pieces of foam. I had some mid bonding strength on hand and it is holding great.

I too have the foam falling down on my 242 Limited. I have a couple of things the dealer has to fix now, so I'm waiting till the end of the season to take it back to have them all addressed.

@subysti's post is most informative. Pay attention to it.
Do not "order" this adhesive ...........

A can of #3M Adhesive spray costs less than $15 @ Home Depot.

"You" vs a dealer:
You will get far BETTER and longer-lasting results if you do this yourself.
It's easy. It's simple. And you cannot mess anything up. And the dealer's shop guy will most likely do a rush job.

Here's how if @subysti's post was still not clear enough:

Spray A) Carefully but ! B) Liberally.

Spray BOTH sides/pieces.

Drink a cold beverage or cup of coffee.

Come back when you have consumed the beverage.

Stick the pieces together.

If you DID spray LIBERALLY, the foam will NEVER come apart again.

Go back inside and bother your kid's Mom .............. LOL !

Enjoy, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

PS - Don't fret over this. Virtually every 2015 24-foot boat has had the insulation "come apart" due to the factory NOT spraying liberally when applying the foam.

When I went to check out the boat and we lifted the hatch I was like wtf? The mechanic said that has happened to all the 2015s he's seen and they would fix it up before delivery. I'm thinking about getting a can of the 3M for when it separates again.

Does anyone know what kind of foam insulation is used? I want to add some to my 2011.

If you expect LITTLE improvement, you won't be terribly disappointed.

Whether you purchase various materials or a kit - makes no difference.

Same results = same answer.

Good luck, however. Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

PS - Results "summary" designed after spending redicules amounts of $ and countless, never-to-regained wasted hours.

Also check in the access panel in the clean out tray. I opened it the other day and there is foam insulation there also. Mine had fallen off.

That's probably because they didn't use the "good stuff" to begin with!! :D

Regarding attempts to significantly reduce engine noise in PRE-2015 24 foot boats, I used some of the very best materials available.

As I have written, the results were abismal.
Hope this helps others, Mikey Lulejian.

I work for 3M and the division that makes that spray adhesive. Thanks for all the great press! Spray 90 is great stuff and should work great. 3M Spray adhesives will be celebrating its 75th year in 2016!

Hi there.... I know it's been a while, just curious if the 3M 90 is still holding up? Will be doing mine this spring. Thanks. 👍
