2016 242 JL Audio 7.7’s all around

Amps and 12” sub in helm, second 12” sub is in a box in the compartment behind the driver seat.
I was asked to post pics of my sound system since it appears I am probable one of the few with JL Audio 7.7”s all the way around.
My system consists of 6 MX 7.7’s in the boat, w M 7.7’s in the swim platform, 2 wetsounds icon 8 towers, and 2 12” jl w3 subs. It is being powered by 1 JL Audio M600 6 channel amp and 2 JL Audio M700 5 channel amps, all thru a wetsounds 420 eq.

I have radio and all sound equipment going thru a small fuse box inside the helm to where I don’t have to turn on any battery/house switches to run the stereo. The 4th switch is a voltmeter and 2 usb charging ports.
The bilge switch powers my secondary pump that is connected straight to the battery and I can also manually turn on from this switch.
My set up has 3 batteries. One group 31 starting battery and 2 optima blue top group 31’s wired in parallel for stereo and accessories.
It has all been trouble free for the last 2 seasons.

Nice setup my friend....I was mistakenly told that 7.7s would require additional mods....guess I was misinformed. Thinking 7.7s will be coming to a AR240 near you,lol

What kind of box did you find to manage into the helm....when the door is shut now well do your vents pass thru the sound....I have my 2nd 12 in the port storage will likely port that side since I have it setup already...what's the link to those vents you used?

I'm sure it sounds great....good to know that 7.7s fit...

I envision a boat full of M770s....and two pair of 880 towers!!

Thanks, here is a link to the vents I used on the slanted part of the helm to get the sound out. I just painted them black.

I just added a picture that shows both the vents for the rear sub.
The front speakers did require a 1” spacer though.
The box was custom made to fit at the helm.

Only mods I just did was the switch panel for my accessories. Main reason was when beached you’re in really shallow water and my transducer alarm would start beeping once in a while. Now I don’t have to turn on the connext screen to turn my system on.

The front is the only place where a spacer was needed. If you look at the pics closely you’ll see it. It’s 1”.

You wouldn't have any install pics, would you?
The bow is definitely an area that could use that kind of an upgrade!
In fact, in my setup it is the only one that would need any attention.

Even at that the front is weak in comparison to the rest of the boat. I have a spare set of mx 7.7 that I’ve been thinking of adding at each fr compartment and wiring in parallel to the existing speakers. Then again I never ride or chill in the front. Only time I’m ever there is to drop or retrieve anchor,

Why were the spacers needed? Because the baskets were too deep? I think they make a "slim" version of the MX6.5s, I wonder if they also have them for the 7.7s?

no clue if they make the smaller basket for the 7.7's.
Yes, the speaker was too deep and would not fit in the "pod"

Well... Looks like you have to upgrade to the 7.7s now... Let me know when you want to sell those tiny old junky 6.5s!!! bwahahahaha

I'm glad someone was able to clarify that 7.7s will fit...now I wish my original installer would have confirmed that for me, could have saved me some money, lol.

@JeffVans not sure if your serious, but I am actually looking to start to swap out some of my JL MX650s for 7.7s. If your interested in the MX650s let me know. I will eventually post them on the classifieds section.

I have both white and black( total of 4 pair). Bought them brand new from my authorized dealer last May, and they have seen a handful of trips and not even close to being abused. Boat is stored indoor and always babied. One set (transom) was installed a few weeks ago brand new and only played once.

I loved my 7.7s from the moment i put them in.... Until @wallacerb unleashed a pair of 8.8 pods last weekend. I Strongly encourage anyone who can afford to go out and buy a pair or 4. Its night and Day different. Only problem is each pod takes 200 Watts to push.

And I echo your comments....my 880 towers are music to my ears and I have 200rms going to each of then..I'd love to add 2 more but not sure I want a crowded tower,unless I can put them outside of the existing ones... I've hit my head already....decisions decisions

yes, there is a difference. They sound cleaner with more presence at least in my opinion. I might swap out all my amps and mx 7.7 during the winter.

I have 2 JL m700's, one with sub channel to one jl w3-2 ohm and the other 4 channels bridged to power the westbound icon 8 towers.
The other JL m700 with the sub channel powering the other jl 12w3-2ohm with the other 4 channels bridged to power the jl m770's at the rear swim platform.
The JL m600 6 channel powering all six jl mx 770's in the boat.

I have a couple of JL 12W3-4 ohm that ill sell cheap if anyone is interested. just PM me

I have 2 600 JLs pushing everying. So the 2 subs are getting 200 and the 7.7s are getting 100

The 2 JL600 6 channel. 2 channels per sub and the rest of the channels are pushing 100 watts each. One channel per speaker.
