2020 242S. Is this a good deal?

Went and checked it out today. Dealer isn't budging on price, but as I was there, other people asked if I was getting it because if I wasn't, they were. So why would they budge?

Here are the details I got. The boat has never been registered, so I get the lower interest rate of about 3.9 since it is considered new.. I dont have to pay freight or prep. 0 down and 0 payments for 90 days. Full factory warranty, just as if I bought it with 0 hours.. Crack is getting fixed. They are storing for the winter. Dealer isnt budging on any extras. I asked about the 63 hours seeming high for a "demo". Turns out the person doing the demo was Dan Dakich, and he had the boat at his house (on a lake) since mid/late 2019 when the boat came out.

They had multiple versions of the 2021's on the showroom floor, probably 8 (mostly 25's), and every one of them was sold. They are basically only taking orders on 2022's.. They aren't expecting any more 2021's.

So, the wife and I decided that if we passed, we would be without a boat for another year. It was either now, or we give up. So now we are waiting on financing to get completed. I'm positive it will go through, and then it is ours!!!!

Thanks to all for the advice, for all of the other threads I have researched, and all who reached out to me privately.. This is a great place to find out anything needed concerning boats of all kinds. I love the comedians, the experts, and the ones who call out the fakes on this site.

Congrats, I think it's a good choice to go ahead and lock this one up. Otherwise, you'd likely be trying to find a used one or staring at another summer without.

Excellent advise. We had similar discussions when it came to the financing and such. I will get EVERYTHING in writing, including demo info..

@HangOutdoors Im not sure how the crack happened for sure. Im thinking docking, since he kept it on a lift. Regardless, that baby is getting fixed and still carrying the lifetime hull warranty..

Make sure you change the bow roller before trailering it home.
Congratulations. It is going to be a fun summer.

@buckbuck Funny you would mention that, because as we were looking at it I made a mental note to replace it. Then on the way out of the dealer I seen a new 25 footer that already appeared to have damage from the factory bow roller, and I told my wife that is upgrade #1.. She laughed and said I was ridiculous.. ha.

Most of us have gone to an orange Stoltz roller. Not sure what size you will need but someone here will chime in.

Hey all. I am seeking the wisdom of all the boaties that have all the knowledge.

I just put down money to purchase a 2020 242S that was a dealer demo. 63 hours. 1 decent crack that they are repairing, and a full factory warranty. Dealer is asking $65,850.. Pretty firm according to salesman.

Question 1.. Is it a good deal? I feel it is in this current economy.

Question 2.. It is more than a new AR250 that the dealer has. Is the upgraded 242 worth it or would the AR250 be a better bargain?

Question 3.. What are the upgrades from an AR to the S class? Does the S have ballast tanks?

I've never owned a jet boat, and since Indiana winter is here I doubt I will be able to test drive it. I plan on CJ or TV's to aid in the learning curve..

Any other advice other than a thorough inspection, or letting it go so you could purchase it? Lol

I own a 2020 Yamaha 242-XE (with ballast tanks, WakeBooster, like brand new) with 20 hours on it. Zero cracks, zero scratches, runs and drives great. I want to upgrade to the 255XD ($93,900), and due to healthy retirement last year, I can afford to do this. I posted it on this website. I am happy to answer any questions you might have, no matter if you just want information. No hard sell tactics. This boat was great, I want the SVHO engines in the 255XD, 54 mph. Dave 810-691-9122

Its a done deal. Thanks to all for the advice. I did get documentation for the warranties, and got the YES warranty just for piece of mind. I will post pics and details in another thread.. Then I get the pleasure of posting in other threads like "where does your boat sleep", and "show us your tow rigs. Super stoked..

Now you have to update your profile - you're not boatless any more.

Ask them to throw in the YES Warranty for 4 years.... YES is good at any Yamaha dealer in the US>

I was also thinking a free extended warranty or free 100 hour service would sweeten the pot, but it sounds like the dealership didn't need to throw in jack considering there was someone standing in line behind him waiting to buy it if he didn't take it. Looks like the deal is done.

Congrats on the new boat, @Yambers!

@tkeru408 you are 100% correct. After we signed the papers we went to the storage/overflow building to get some pics of the new boat, and another couple was actually in it. We said we had just purchased it and they stated they were there to put money down if my deal fell through in any way, so the dealer wasn't lying. I still got some good deals though, since it has never been titled and I got all the conveniences of it being "new". Lower rates, cheaper warranties, deals on coastguard kit.

I am sure there are many who have gotten better deals, and I am sure others have gotten worse, but it seemed worth it to me given the current market and circumstances. It's worth what someone is willing to pay.
