I met the owner of a 222XE yesterday at a local event. We had previously discussed Audio Zones in a FB group Yamaha 22's. I learned that if you press and hold the settings icon on the screen that it accesses additional information, i.e. Software Version, Boat Name (model) and a place to enter a 4-digit code.

A couple of questions:
1. Do all 22's have the same software?
2. If yes, would changing the boat name from a 222SE to a 222XE allow for 4 audio zones instead of 2?
3. If so, do I need the 4-digit code to change the boat name and where do I get the code?

This sound like a cool fix. We need a few people to go check. I will next time I'm on the boat.

A fellow member off the FB group Yamaha 22's received this feedback from the service manager of the Kennesaw, GA Dealership.

“I don’t believe it is advised to change to boat model on the settings of the display. There are other functions controlled by the display unit that differ between boat models and could cause those functions to not work properly. This is based on my understanding of the boat’s systems, but I would need to confirm with Yamaha to get a definitive answer. I also believe that four-digit code is for dealer service use only.”

There has to be a simple way to go from 2 zones to four. I could see potentially an issue if you put software of a lower optioned boat i.e. a 222SX into an XE not sure if that would be true the other way around, but I'm no expert.

I'm sorry if your not will to try a 4 digit code from the 222xe if some one will give you one. You also will need to get a 30 day subscription to the service manual to see what the pin out is for the radio. Get a small formfactor marine radio Jl, Wetsounds, Hertz. and a remote for the stern or use a WS-420 BT on zone one of the factory unit so you can still use the connext volume knob.
