Kyle Wise I saw the pre production photos and video of the 285 Scarab. It will be the first designed from the hull up to be a WakeSurf wave making machine with up to 4000 pound under deck water ballast and built in surf tabs that will allow the 16 person capacity boat to do crossovers and wave elongation while under way! Plus being capable of 60 + mph ( without ballast filled) . The boat will have a 8’10” beam that will allow for a massive cockpit 80 gallons of gas and with 4000 pounds of ballast an impending Tsunami behind the boat. Yamaha has all but shown pictures of their new flagship. It will be in Miami! It will be larger than their current 242 platform, it will have more HP than the 1.8L 180 hp. The only engine currently available to their boats is their SVHO 260 hp Super charged motors. If they are going to build larger than the 26’ boat would put them larger than the current Scarab 255 platform. The 262 designation seems logical. I believe both of these boats will be available after the model year is over. They will probably be available this time next year! I also believe both boats will be less than 10% of each brands total sales! But a $99k or less price Tag will move that number up quickly. I’m confident that the Miami boat show will be worth the flight and $300+ a night rooms and packed shuttles leading to and from key Biscayne! But hey, what do I know!

Just posted back to me on Facebook. Holy crap.

Probably cost more than a high end wake boat too.

He said they will both be about 99k

Err 99k or leas tag would increase the 10% sales.

Interesting though if scarab can put a decent wake out but still gave functionality of a jet now.

I am wondering yamaha angle on the 26ft just a larger boat to keep people in them or will it have a small cuddly area...

The thing is with wake boats, bigger boats will always require more weight to make a big(ger) wave. No wonder it's got an 80 gallon fuel tank. You'll need it at the RPM's those motors and superchargers will be churning pulling that kind of load :D. They also must have some sort of crazy nozzle and pump tuning to be able to push 4,000 lbs of ballast without the impellers screaming for mercy. Sounds interesting but as intriguing as jets are, they're not $100k level when I know the wave will be better in the end behind a v drive. I will give them kudos for actually making a purpose built wake surf jet boat, looking forward to what the wave looks like.

At 8'10" to haul it you will need a wide load permit i believe.
Anything over 8'6" if i remember correctly.

If it is 28 feet long I cant imagine it being that nimble in turns.

A boat that long and wide is likely to need considerably more than 4K ballast to produce a killer surf wave. Even on 23 foot v-drive boats, 4K is at the lower end of what many people run. A bigger boat will not be riding particularly deep in the water with that weight. Still - it will be cool to see!

Agreed, I fell in love with the MB B52 23’ at the boat show and they are running 5,200 lbs of stock ballast. Now if only the kids would carry their own weight I could actually afford it.

built in surf tabs
All currently sold (inboard) jet boats have their transoms tucked (recessed) a foot or two under the swim deck, but the swim deck still counts in the LOA... So, a 24ft Yamaha is a 22ft hull if compared to a regular wake boat.
Also, increasing the amount of ballast up to 2.5-3k lbs in some cases has not produced much improved wave in the 240/242 Yamaha, while the distribution of ballast seems to be very important - the boat needs to be listed and the corner of swim deck on the surf side needs to be pushed down hard.
If that new combination of "surf tabs" would "extend" the hull and shape the wake/wave that to me would sound like a potential game changer.

The Yamaha Rep at the Milwaukee Boat Show, said the new boat that’s going to be revealed in Miami is going to be bigger than 26’.

That’s all he said and I didn’t prod him with more questions as that’s more boat than we need, so I don’t have too much interest in it.

Anyone going to the Miami boat show??

Launch day is Thursday, I'm going Saturday. But I should be able to get a good peek at whatever wasn't covered in all the media before then. I definitely plan on crawling all over the Yamaha and Scarab options they're releasing.

Do they have any of the demo boats in the water? You know, to let VIPs do quick sea trials. :)

I would be curious how the new Scarabs (255?) with those ACE engines feel in the water, also what's the noise level in comparison with Yamaha, as the new 240/242s are not bad anymore.

Personally, I'm going to skip the media coverage and will wait to hear about your observations.

1/2 the show is on water, 1/2 in tents I believe. I just checked, and both Yamaha and Scarab are in tents. :\ Doubt there's a whole lot of sea trials going on anyway except for the big dollar boats maybe.
