I bought a 1994 Bayliner reflexx jet 90hp 2 stroke, my first boat. Carb was rebuilt, good compression (idk the numbers) new plugs. And new hoses only on the carb ( not sure why someone would not replace all of the fuel hoses) I was told there was no upgraded modifications to the engine for performance just stock.
I test drove it knowing it had issues to be fixed, but the boat was at a killer price.
One of the issues was, when you get going 1/4 to 1/2 throttle it goes with no issues, once your towards or full throttle the boat does not plane or it struggle as if a clutch is slipping, or cavitation. Now I'm curious thinking maybe I have air coming from the hull getting sucked in the the impeller, because under the engine in the hull it has about an inch of water and the engine has water all over it. It looks like the water was slashed on the engine. And the engine bonnet has no way for water to be splashed like that in. Any ideas if my theory is right about an air leak, how do I go about diagnosing that?
The second issue was the engine would sputter toward high revs sometimes low revs, it wouldnt cut off just sputtered, It does not have an electricfuel pump. I know this is a problem that could be a bunch of things, just shooting this problem out there.
I'm thinking either lack of fuel, clogged old lines, or coils.
