I'm running the stock Jenson JMS32 head unit with the standard 4 speaker set up. I upgraded all 4 speakers to be
Kicker 45KM604WL's (6.5" 150W Max at 4 olm) which made the sound much richer, but not much louder. I figured it was time to add the amp. I picked up a JL MX280/4 which should help get the volume loud enough to enjoy then music while the engine is on. Currently only have one battery installed and I carry a jump pack in case of emergency. So the question I have is how much do I have to worry about battery draw? I realize that there is correlation between volume and power and I won't be rocking the lake, but.....

1. Will the stator be able to keep up with the amp draw when the motor is running and the volume is loud?
2. Will there be significant drain on the battery if we are floating and listening at a conversational level for an hour or two?

And yes, I know that I should just add a house battery and a/b switch and be done with it, so there is no need to tell me that:D. That will come later this summer!

Will you only be running the one amp? If so you should be ok for a while. It may discharge your stock battery and could shorten the life on it. So at minimum put it on a shore charger while not using the boat. Glad you have a jump pack just in case. I ran one 400w rms amp off the stock battery for about a year. I have since added a second amp, powered sub and a house battery.

Yep, just the one right now. The MX280/4 is 200w 50x4 class D amp. It only has a 35amp fuse, so it should not be too power hungry.

You'll be fine - if you're listening at conversation level while floating, you can do that for days as class D amps are the most efficient and don't draw much when mildly used. If you crank it expect to get 30-60 mins before you need to fire up the engine to charge the battery. While cruising and cranked, the charging system may not be able to keep up. I'd also recommend an on-board smart battery charger even without an amp to make sure the battery is properly charged and conditioned while sitting or during storage.
