Another insurance thread. Is moving to BoatUS worth it?

I have had Markel for the past two years.

I want to eventually make the Bimini trip but it won't be this year. I might take my boat to the Gulf of Florida though, I'm not sure yet.

Markel covers to 25 miles offshore. BoatUS will give a temporary rider to go to the Bahamas, from what I understand. The $1 mil liability from Markel is nice, though.

For anyone who has had any experience with these companies, which one would you go with? Note: Markel's data is last year's rate. I don't know for sure what the renewal rate will be with them but it did go up between 2014 and 2015.

I have Boat US but fortunately have not had to make any claims. I will say that when working with them to get my coverage their customer service was very good.

I also like the towing policy and discounts that comes with them.

BoatUS was awesome for me when my sx210 trailer got hit by a stop sign runner a few years ago. They actively engaged to make sure the other company made me whole.

I had an outdrive stolen back in 1995. Boat US paid the claim and had me up and running wihin 2 weeks. Haven't thought about using another company since. My 2 cents

Have used Markel for years as they are only marine insurance we USAA ins. Customers can use, and have included in our USAA umbrella policy.

Markel was OUTSTANDING in handling a major manufacturing defect in previous boat (non-Yamaha).

Going to look into BoatUS Rider, for Markel...
