For you experts out there.... I'm looking to upgrade my system and my concerns are with weight. Can I exchange the weight of my system for 1 less passenger?

@1rjclark you shouldn't be concerned too much with a mild upgrade. The only weight you will add that amounts to anything is about 70 pounds for the battery. The amp, a subwoofer if you want, will add a minimal amount, although a quality woofer will weight some. The speakers you pull and replace with better. Overall, you not talking but 100 pounds or so. It won't require leaving anyone at home!

I bet you have more weight in extra gear, ice, drinks, food, purses, clothes, anchors, life jackets, tables, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc than any reasonable stereo mod. Come on, am I the only one who goes boating with three female packrats??

You're absolutely right about the extra weight. My wife packs a lot of shit. Plus the cooler with 40 lbs of ice not including drinks and food. But I do plan on putting a significant amount of music ( or slap as the youngsters around the Bay call it) on my boat.

These boats float like a cork. I've had almost 3000 pounds of water bag weight in mine plus a few passengers and no issues at all.
