My dad has a 18' center console that he wants to upgrade. He likes to think of upgrades while I'm visiting ?‍♂️ I priced out JL for him and he says "I dont want to spend $2k" so this is what I came up with. The kicker 6 channel amp has hi/lo pass filter on amp3 output

Kicker KMA 600.6 $450
Kicker 45KMF104 KM Freeair 10" $200
Kicker LED Grill $50
Kicker Marine Amp 8 Gauge Kit $120
Total $820

I'll leave his factory speakers for now because it's something easy he can upgrade later. I've never heard a IB subwoofer so I'm nervous to cut a 10" hole in his console and it sucks. There's also a 12" sub available. Recommendations?

If you can fit a 12" - go for it. IB subs sound great. Output isn't going to match a ported box but it blends so much better. A much more natural sound.

The 600.6 takes an 80 amp fuse, so you'll need 4 gauge wire for power.

He won't be very impressed with the upgrade if he doesn't like the stock speakers - the system will simply sound louder with more bass, but not improved a lot. The speakers are much more important to sound quality than anything else as speakers make the sound. If he's sticking to a budget, I'd upgrade the stock speakers with an amp, and add the sub later. That will make much bigger impact on sound quality.

IB subs sound great when properly installed - infinite baffle means the rear cone sound is kept inside the baffle area and there's a large volume behind it, like a large comming panel or under-seating area. Keep the doors and seats closed for best sound. If you're just sticking to 4 speakers, then a 10" sub is plenty unless he's a bass head and wants to over-power the sound and rattle the screws loose.
