Boat is a 2017 Yamaha 242 LS. Perhaps a stupid question but...what is the correct way to turn on power to use the audio system when stationary (engines off)?

We routinely cruise a bit then stop to float and watch the sunset, turning off the engines. To turn on the audio system you can either leave the key(s) in the “on” position (potentially draining the starter battery), or depress a soft key on the display turning on the blower while eliciting that awful start-up screech until the panel completes its start-up sequence.

Am I missing something obvious? If those are the only two methods, which is preferred?

With the keys off the blower shouldn’t come on when you press a soft key to turn on the the connext, is that what your saying is happening? You can put some tape on the buzzer to quiet it a bit I don’t think @Mainah is making the the shrill to chill mod anymore which I have and love.

I have a 2016 242 LS here is what I do....

I turn keys to off and start battery to OFF (leave house battery to ON). Push and hold system key on context system...its not a soft key but an actual button above the screen in the middle. Context should light up and say you are in float mode and you can play the radio, use the shower etc.

If you want context screen to turn off but automatic bilge to remain on flip the blower switch on briefly then off and screen will turn off but house battery power will run to bilge pump ...we use this when the boat is on the lift with the plug in.

To solve the Connext alarm I turn off one engine then turn the key back to acc, then turn off the other engine. Connext stays on throughout.

Do you then have one key on or do you turn it off again.

Pretty sure that turning it off again will turn off the Connext again.

And by doing it as described, arent you running the audio from your starting battery?

I leave one key on and both batteries on - screen says Float Mode.
