Bilge pump under wet storage

I’m getting ready to install a second bilge on my AR 195 and was thinking of putting it in the area below my wet storage, I think this is actually the lowest point in the boat ( that I can access). Anyone done this or have any suggestions?

I’m wet slipping my boat this year so I want to make sure it stays afloat.

Yea plenty of people on here mount theirs in the actual bilge of the boat. I think some of those posts can be found in the FAQ. If I were to use a secondary bilge pump that is where I would put it and not in the engine bay.

Also do you think I could safely use screws that will protrude into the hull 1/4"? I've seen a lot of people epoxy them in but then if I need to change and rule changes their 800GPH basket I will have to move it or if the switch fails I can't remove it.

Doing this has been in the back of mind as well. For me personally I don't think I could bring myself to screw into the bottom of the hull even if someone told me it was ok. My thought is that in the off chance the bilge pump fails and there isn't a replacement for the original basket, it wouldn't be the end of the world to have to cut/grind/sand the old basket away and epoxy a new one in its place. Another though would be to bolt the basket up through an 1/8" piece of plastic board (or some such material) and epoxy the board to the bottom allowing you to unbolt the old basket and bolt down a new one later. My two cents for what its worth. Now I'll let the more knowledgeable decide whether or not to give you the go ahead on screwing into the bottom hull.

I should have thought of adding a plastic board, I did that to my bass boat on the side of the live well and it worked great to mount my dual battery system. I even have some left in the shop so I will try and make that work, Thanks.

I used apoxy . . I figured worst case I would just have to replace the pump and move it to the front or the back a little. I would never... Never screw to the bottom of the boat!

@Scott Huse As mentioned above, many people have put another bilge pump under the clean out tray in the actual bilge. That puts the pump below the factory pump, getting more water out. Wire it to a float switch. My problem was, and I do not know if the newer models have the same problem that my 07 has, but she is bow heavy, and water would run/collect forward under the ski locker or rain water on the deck would run forward pooling in the bow forward of the ski locker hatch. It would accumulate there and make its way into the ski locker and then the bilge. My wife and I noticed this at the slip and when we stepped onto the swim platform, the water flowed aft and into the gutters around the ski locker and fuel tank hatch and out the scupper. I decided to put a 400# water ballast bag on the swim platform while parked at the marina, and the wet deck syndrome went away. This also moved the water under the ski locker, the lowest point on the boat, aft to the bilge pump. Update, I installed the secondary bilge pump and switch into the actual bilge area under the wet storage. I couldn't find place that was flat enough to epoxy a board so i went ahead and epoxied the pump and the switch directly to the hull. In the 195 their isn't enough room to place the together so I had to place the pump on the right side of the jet pump and the switch on the left. I think it will work out good because I can access them seperatly through the access holes Yamaha gave us instead removing the entire wet storage bottom. I haven't ran the hose as I ran out of time yesterday but I am going to drill another hole in my boat beside the current bilge and pissers (Not thrilled about this but I think it is my best option for security).
