[USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] Not me but One of the members who joined to cross has a 2015 ish 242... the boat was hit by lighting and threw everyone around a bit but they are ok... however one engine doenst stay running. It will run for a few seconds and then choke down from what sounds like fuel starvation. Anyone know where the fuse would be on the 242 for the fuel pumps? The other engine runs fine

On older Yamahas there are fuses in the ECU under a cover that screws off.

Back engine wall, behind the cap?

We must know more about the 242 that was struck by lightening!!!!

Yep, just confirmed in a pic, if need be o can go get in my boat

ok update.... they swaped fuel pumps to see if that was the issue... the running engine runs fine on the switched pump... but the engine that will not stay running will not run off of the pump that we know is good. So both fuel pumps are working.... we need new ideas.. lol

Have you confirmed power to the fuel pump on the non running engine?

The engine will run for approximately 8 seconds... an alarm will sound and the check engine lite will come on. The the engine starts to struggle for fuel.... but the fuel pump is working.... Ideas?

Got another 242 around to swap ECM's with? No idea if this would work, but might be worth a try.

Does non-running engine start and fire then die?

Perhaps swap coils as well?

Trying to think of what other electronics could have been damaged with the strike.

TPS sensor possibly?

Hope all inside the boat are OK.

I would not swap parts from another boat. Additional stuck boats would be more of a problem.

Swapping ECMs between the engine could be an idea.

Are we sure it is not as simple as the cleanout hatch switch being misadjusted and vibrating?

Would the cleanout hatch switch throw a check engine light?

Did the boat take on any significant water? If so it could have got moisture in the modular ignition connectors back near the engine compartment.

Another issue is EMP. A close lightning strike can give off a significant Electro Magnetic Pulse. I think the ECU would be the most susceptible to this.

They said all of them were ok but i think one guy was blown off the front of the boat back to the helm. But they were not hurt. I would weary of swapping ecms as well. The motor does start and idles fine... until it appears to run out of fuel. @Bruce yes we are sure it is not a switch... if he starts it and tries to idle it up it dies faster due to using up the limited amount of fuel it can get.

Can you wire the fuel pump directly to 12v and see if the engine stays running?

You seemed to have ruled out fuel pump earlier. Now it sounds like it could be a fuel pump.

I am n

they did not say anything about the boat taking on water... but the boat could have had water in it already.. it rained this morning and they were under a significant rain could at the time
