Bimini Mounted Kneeboard Rack

I couldn't find what I wanted, so I decided to give in and try to fab something.

I found these mounts on Amazon.

Bought some aluminum tubing from Home Depot.

Board In

I may have to do some tweaking to the straps. I wish the cross bars of the frame were slightly closer together. I think I might add another strap down the middle connecting the other two to lessen the chance of the board sliding.

But for less than $70 I'm happy with it. And I don't have to purchase a $300 mount for the tower or step over the board in the floor anymore.

Love it! This would also come in handy for larger boards like ZUP 2.0 - those fit in my big surfboard rack but I wouldn't want it there if going fast, in rough water, etc.

The way I see it - it'd be a "cargo rack" with mounts (or clip-ons) under the tower (there are no bimini rails in AR) - oversized boards would go front to back (not across).

Here is a general concept (for an under bimini cargo rack) - but it would be put together with @F.M. parts.

Are there concerns with hanging extra weight on the back of the bimini?

I had a thought to use some cargo net in the same area and use it like a sling to put boards on. But then I was worried about additional weight. It might not seem like a lot but the fulcrum is at the bow end of the bimini.

Hmm, @F.M. I haven’t actually mocked mine up yet, but hadn’t thought about the rope dragging on the board. Can you post the link to those brackets that attach to the tower? Those look handy!
