The gel coat on our boat was shot and at some point a repair had been made to the port side and the gel coat didn’t match. After wet sanding and buffing it several time only to have it fade out shortly afterwards I decided to paint it. Did a bunch of research and decided to use TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside paint and primer.

Sanded the hull with a DA sander and 220 grit paper, taped it off and sprayed the primer.

Next step was to sand the primer by hand with 220 sand paper and spray the first coat of navy blue paint.

Sanded again by hand with 220 and sprayed the second coat, waited a day and untapped it. Overall I’m happy with the way it came out, got a couple runs under the rub rail that I can live with.

Forgot to add that the local boat yard wanted 5k to paint it and a place that wraps them wanted 3k. My total cost for a gallon of top coat, primer, thinner, and dewaxer was $325.00. Way more paint then I needed and probably could of gotten away with 1/2 gallon of top coat and a quart of primer.
