Well here's a new video with the TR-1 out of a boat and on a table to look at.

What is everyone's opinion looking at this video?

I would almost be certain that this is going to be a new engine for one of the upcoming boats (maybe a new 2017 21' model?). With it being smaller and weighing less but still providing a small bit more power it would do well in that size boat.

Here are some things I saw/thought when watching:
- Why is the oil filter on the top and back of the engine? Seems like that will make oil changes a bit more 'interesting'...
- Looks like oil fill cap is in the back as well, hard to see if there was a oil drain plug. They do mention an oil extraction port in the video, so hopefully that remedies that issue currently on the current 1.1L engine.
- Noise reduction thru better exhaust design and better motor mounts will be a welcome upgrade.
- Air intake looks small, I wonder if they will do something a bit more like the current engine for the boats to get that air into the closed hatch? I kind of assume this is a PWC version of the engine for some of these things.
- Not knowing that much about the gearing, is the removal of the 'reduction gear' a big deal or not? What difference would that have to the operator?
 
I agree that the TR-1 would be a way for Yamaha to bring the 210 line back. When the 210 line was discontinued, it left a gap around the $35K to 45K range for those where top speed is really not that important. I happen to be one of those that is very satisfied with the power that our 210 provides. We typically cruise at around 25-30 mph. My wife and kids start getting nervous when we go over 35 with light chop.

My initial thoughts when I saw it was 3 cylinders and produces more horses that the MR-1. And I did think that the oil filter placement would make oil changes less messy because the oil should drain back into the engine. Combine that with noise reduction upgrades that the 24's already received. The future may be bright for the 210 line.
 
The CARB report for 2016 lists the max power of the 1049cc GYMXM1.054GF engine used in personal watercraft as 85 KW (114 BHP).

In 2015 the 1052cc FYMXM1.054G used in personal watercraft was rated at 75 KW (101 BHP). Only the 1812 cc YMXM1.814HA was listed for boats at 122 KW (164 BHP).

In 2008 the 1052cc 8YMXM1.054HA used in personal watercraft was rated at 104.5 KW (140 BHP).

In 2007 the 1052cc 7YMXM1.054GA used in personal watercraft and jet boats was rated at 104.5 KW (140 BHP)

Interestingly the EPA has the GYMXM1.054GG listed twice for use in 2016 boats with the same 85 KW (114 BHP) power rating 2016 MY (XLS). The power rating is at 8,000 RPM which is the same max RPM as the non HO MR1s. Hopefully it has the ability to spin up to 10,000 RPM in a future HO version. If the ratio of increase in power from 8,000 rpm to 10,000 RPM was the same as for CARB rated MR1s a 10,000 RPM TR1 would produce 118.4 KW or 159 BHP.

For the 2007 to 2011 period the EPA listed two 1052 cc engines 4YMXM1.054GA and 8YMXM1.054HA at 99.8 KW (134 BHP) and 103 KW (138 BHP) 2007-2011 MYs (Zip)

Just checked pictures of my boat engine and "advertised power" is 104.5kw or 140 HP. All these years I thought the MR-1 HO was 160 HP.

I am with you on this and not certain of what to make of the difference between the government numbers and the marketed numbers. The 2006 SX230 manual specifies the non HO as 140 HP @ 10,000 rpm and the HO as 160 HP @ 10,000 rpm.

I also am curious what changed between the HA and GA engines.

Same here @buckbuck. I thought the non HO MR-1 was 140 HP and the HO model was 160 HP.
