I have been thinking about removing the 2nd captains chair in my 212ss and turning into J seating. That bucket seat is a total space waster, I believe the J seating has more ass capacity.
I welcome your comments

My wife would prefer the captains chair. So she says. I think she's just jealous that I don't let her drive.

I'm glad to see someone prefers it! Certainly isn't me. I'd love to have a second captains chair in mine.

My wife prefers the captains chair also. The J seating may give you more ass room but will not increase your seating capacity more than what your placard states.

J seating all the way....the second captains chair takes up too much room in my opinion.

do you do a lot of watersports and does your 2nd captain chair spin around to face the rear? if so, that is what I like about having a captain chair for the spotter. It is more comfortable for me

In the 212 I preferred the J seating. I agree "the J seating has more ass capacity"

It might not increase the overall seating capacity, but it increases the amount of room everyone has.

How would you do this? would you simply span the area then make a custom cushion?

I'm 100% in on the J seat...when i was looking at models it was all I considered.

2nd captains chair was my biggest gripe when I was recently in a 2015 AR240. I prefer my lounger

My preference for the "J" seating is driven mostly by the amount of underseat storage that we need.

Interesting. Love seeing all of the rationales!

I haul kids more than I haul my wife or a group of adults. So I am in the J club all the way.

i have thought of doing the same thing. i have the same exact boat. the 212x in same year "2013" has the same color interior and has the j seat. it should be possible to purchase that cushion and it be interchangeable if you so choose.

Love the j seating.
The captains chair caused us not to consider the 2015.
Should be optional either way.

Yes Cam thats is my thought. I was kicking the idea around with my friend from the local Yamaha dealer, he said it would a plug and play retro. Question is how far do I want to bend over for the Yamaha parts.:wideyed:

Someone else checked into converting from j seating (I think it was a convertible lounger) to a second captains seat and found that it would be very expensive to do so with oem parts. I know if I wanted to do it on my 242 it would be tough since there is a thick piece of metal under the fiberglass where the second seat would mount to the boat. In the earlier 240s the only boats that had a second capatins chair were the 242 non limited s and the six.

I would price out the cushion and hardware at Yamaha sports plaza before I got to excited about making the change. If the price is too high I'd rotate the second Captain's chair around 180 degrees, keep the Bolster down and use it like a lounger.

242 captains seat OEM lists for $1100. You'd have to REALLY want it.
