purchased used sx230 Yamaha 2005 a cam sensor code along with check engine light appear ,I contacted old owner and he sent me a different cam sensor to install as it looks the same am not sure , as there is no #s on cam sensor. my ? is would it hurt anything to install sensor to see if it corrects the issue .

I can't recall hearing someone that had a bad cam sensor......strange that you are looking at a second failure. Hard to say if the sensors are the same without part numbers to compare. With that said, it would seem that trying the sensor should pose no harm as long as it appears the same on the outside.

thanks for your reply this would be the first replacement as the boat runs great and has no other issues even with original sensor still in. I just wasn't sure if by chance it was a different sensor if that would effect anything. one other ? is there a way to make sure the code is cleared out of the computer so as not to reappear as I have put on 2 hours on boat since getting it. the code appears after 10 min. of run time

you should purchase a YDS unit (check the FAQ tab at the top of the page for info about them) to get a better idea what's going on with your engines,

thanks I order a yds unit and should be here in a week were is the connection for yds located on a 2005 thanks

The yds on my 03 is in the starboard rear hatch behind the screw in port facing aft.

@doug goeckel Make sure the YDS you ordered is compatible with what ever Windows version is on your computer. I have seen folks order YDS online only compatible with Windows 8 or earlier and try to run on Windows 10 without success. As far as clearing codes, I have read disconnecting battery will do this, but I have not needed to do this myself so I do not know if it is true.

thanks everybody I used my yds today and it works great I have a question in reguards to the eng. monitor part on the last (6) items that say on/off. are they suppose to be on or off. mine is about 50/50. also how do you clear a eng. light fault. the computer says it is normal but I do not no how to clear the light on dasbo

@doug goeckel This is an excel file from this spring of one of my engines, engine bumped, not running, key on.20170513_111726.jpg
