Hey Scarab folks, I’ve been working on installing catch cans on my 215 twin 250HP. Fabricated the mounts last night, and got them installed this morning. For those of you that aren’t familiar with catch cans, they prevent oil vapor and other crankcase vapors from being returned to the air intake. Over time, this crankcase crud can reduce supercharger efficiency and eventually plug the intercooler among other things. The crankcase vent is diverted to a “can” where the vapors are condensed and trapped. I was in a bit too much of a hurry to take pictures of fabricating the mounts, but I cut spirals out of 4” stainless process pipe, and welded a bracket to the bottom of them to mount to the exhaust manifold. There are catch cans available from Riva and Fizzle, but the both just vent to the engine compartment. I went with ones that return the “cleaned” air back to the intake. The cans that vent to the engine compartment increase fumes, smells, and potentially messy oils in the engine bay. The cans I used were from Amazon for $25 each. Here they are installed:
