Does anyone know the actual CE class for Yamaha 24' boats for export? It will either be D (most likely) but may be C. Is there any documentation regarding the class published?
I'm a import customs broker but have many friends that do exports. I'm not familiar with obtaining a CE class, is this a US required piece of information? Where are you exporting it to and I can ask around
I am not exporting. It's not necessary for the US to have the CE mark but for boats being sold across the pond, they need to have CE and a class. The short story is Class A is ocean travel, class B is offshore, C is nearshore, D is inland lake and protected waters.
I'm just trying to find information as to what class these boats are exported as by Yamaha. Class also has wave height definitions attached to it also.
So if you apply an aircraft safety factor of 1.5 (* 18" wave height for class D) you get a wave height of 2.25 feet. Doesn't really seem like much. Class C is rated for 7 feet!
Interesting..., thank you guys for bringing this up.
I'll need to delve into it a bit more, my poor boat tried to self-destruct when I took her nearshore...
I'm in a little "debate" with yamaha over this, actually.
(Yeah... Class C my a$$)
@swatski I'm not sure your (or my) AR 240 is a class C. I would say class D. The old SX230 is a battle wagon compared to the newer boats and it is a class C.

Not sure what info you actually need @McMark but what I've always understood, the CE mark is just to say the craft is compliant to be sold in the EU (European Union). Our boats fall into the under 12M (39') category and from what I read, as long as the stability and buoyancy standard is there, it can be RCD (Recreational craft directive) compliant.
I've looked into bringing my boat to the Uk after its useful life in the US, as the resale price I could get would be a lot higher as Yamaha do not export to the UK. When enquiring what I need to do, to obtain a CE cert, its trivial things like changing the gas tank cap to say "fuel" on it, as we don't call petroleum gas , and changing the specification label to kilos not pounds etc etc.
