Changing trailer wheels 14 to 8?

What do you guys think of this idea... changing the wheel from 14" to 8" and add wheel spacers for the brake axle to clear the caliper/rotor... to be able to fit an AR210 in a 7' garage door opening?

For storage you'd be fine but for highway travels I would stick with the 14's and are you sure that it would even fit with 8's?

the 8" tire is designed for highway use 81mph speed rating which is higher than most trailer tires... and I would put a spacer to clear the brakes.

at least thats the theory

One thing to think about is going down the road the trailer will sit lower so any uneven areas such as drive entrances, railroad track crossings or some boat ramps you run the risk of dragging the rear crossmember of the trailer or even the axles. With those tires I would think that you would be pushing the load limits as well with the boat being over 3k empty and the weight of the trailer.

I'd just buy a skinny 8" tire/wheel combo and install on the axle without brakes, tie up the other axle from hanging too low, back it in the garage, put it on jack stands and call it good.

Get these, take the tires off the trailer, attach these to the frame. This gets you under the door with the ability to move your boat/trailer in any direction on your garage floor. A lot of work for weekly use but just fine for winter storage. It would also keep your tires from flat spotting over the winter.
