So... I have been little lazy checking out the boat between outings. Our lake is mostly no wake, but this time we decided to take the boys tubing. Boat pulled like shit and cavitated bad on launch and turns. Come to think of it, last couple times out, lots of cavitation when getting on plane in the "speed zone".

Well... finally checked my shaft. :p

I take some "quiet time" every couple nights to check my shaft. At my age you start getting nervous.

Wait - are we talking about boats or....???? Never mind.

They have a little blue pill for that but you seem to have a little blue shaft.

Just pull it out but not in public

I was always told in health class i should wrap my shaft before getting it wet , but in your case wrapping it caused cavitation ...on a serious note its amazing how something so small can effect the boats performance

I also agree @Jeel ....How can such a trivial amount of debris make the boat run like crap?? That just seems waaaaayyyy too finicky. At least in this instance you can see a clear offender but some boaters are experiencing cavitation with little or no physical evidence. That stinks

@Nate Fallow , ive had a Yamaha jet boat since 07 and one of the reasons i chose Yamaha was because of the stainless steel jet pump ring and the clean out ports that make it easy to get to the impellers ...something as small as a piece of sea grass causes cavitation and there are days im opening the cleanout ports several times a day

I just had an issue early this month. while loading on the trailer a chunk of wood about 1" by 1" got sucked up between the wear ring and the jet prop and bogged down the engine. I shut down and managed to flush it out when I got home. after a few days of dreading taking it in I was able to get it out ….but it surprised me that it made it past the gate. That was a reminder to never power up to load her on the trailer!! The dealer would have stuck me with the pump removal for sure. glad you took care of it!!
