The clean-out plug on our boat won't seat. The dealer didn't tell us to take the plug out between uses (and we leave our boat on the water most of the year - not sure if that makes a difference or not). This is the first time we've had this issue - any suggestions? Can I buy a new plug?

You can buy the rebuild kit from Yamaha. You can also try cleaning the rubber lip seal, it gets allot of grit stuck in there sometimes

The cleanout plug more than likely has swelled as that is what happens if you leave them in water. There are 'manhole repair kits' you can buy if you need a new seal.

Welcome Aboard @Pippin.

Here are instructions with the part number https://jetboaters.net/threads/rebuilding-yamaha-jet-boat-clean-out-plugs.46/

In the short term you can carefully nudge the plug into place although you may find it difficult to remove afterward.

Lubing it up with fish soap might be enough to get it in.

When we first purchased our current boat the plugs were swollen and Yamaha was back ordered. I kept two lengths of 2x4 and the strap from a ratchet strap on board. I used the short piece to hammer the plugs in place for the installation and placed the short piece under the long along with the strap to make a lever that spread the load to pull them out.

Welcome @Pippin. Have you cleaned up both the plug and the housing down in the boat? It's quite possible that there's a lot of sand and grit built up in there. Clean them both out really well and use some "pool lube" on the rubber gasket. Also, my plugs had some rough edges on the top part below the handle. This was making it hard for the plug to seat. I simply smoothed them out with a light sanding and they were much easier to get back in.

That's awesome @Pippin glad it worked out well for you. Hopefully you still have some boating season left where you are so that you can still enjoy your boat.
