Our friends ( @Brian eilrich ) got caught in this same storm just a couple hundred yards up river. They noticed a lot of fire department activity.
Shocking video. I’m glad they are all okay, no one hurt. Hopefully they’re insured and can get into a new boat.

Hard to blame them without knowing the whole story. Article says they were able to toss anchor but still being dragged. Disabled boat in a storm - not a whole lot you can do.

That is one of the reasons I carry 2 anchors--because I think I will only need one. But if you lose one or if the one you have doesn't hold, you can be in a world of hurt fast.

Were the people in the disabled boat at least wearing life vests? That dam doesn't look overly high/tall.

We had a boat go over the falls here in Louisville last week. One of the two in the boat drowned. Was the first time out on thier new boat. The survivor was able to pluck a vest out of storage before going over, and was actively talking to 911 dispatchers as the boat and crew went over the falls. Took a couple days to find the guy without the vest.

Pretty easy to replace a boat, not so much a human. Step #1 in any "bad situation" is put the vests on if not already on.

We've gone so far as to mandate the vests be out of storage and within reach of passengers in "sketchy" situations before such as large storms, going through locks, etc. Takes just a few minutes and usually communicates the level of attention that should be paid to the situation without words.
