Does anyone have advice on a waterproof mountable carbon monoxide detector? Seems like it would be a good idea to install on the stern of the boat. The ones I see on the west marine website are not waterproof. Any suggestions on a version that can be utilized with a center console in the elements?

Thanks!

all kidding aside I do not believe a CO detector would be very effective in an open area

I believe they are basically for enclosed areas

Actually they are effective. I have two. One on the inside of the cockpit up above the drain that goes to the scupper to the Port side and one on the swim platform. I velcroed them. I have other threads on here that talk about how I tested them. Depending on wind, going no wake I have set them both off. Idling the alarm has gone off. Also it is possible to get a pocket of air when going faster than no wake and I have set the cockpit one off. I played with intentionally putting things on the seats or putting a blown up tube in the walkway which we do all the time and blocks the wind. Interesting results. Very eye opening.

I have these. Although not IP67 rated they work great and I take them off and throw them in my go bag. Mine are set low, I believe at 9 ppm, highest reading I ever got was 842 ppm on swim deck in channel on LSC High humidity day with a light breeze to our back going 2-3mph no wake.

EDIT: I operate my boat very safely, no one the platform, engines aren't running when swimming or people in the water, except to pick up a fallen rider and engines are cut when we get close, with a good distance between us. BUT, the alarms are there so that I can prevent a possible tragedy, no matter how remote the way I operate the boat.

I have these for my company I give them to my guys that work on boilers these do work well. Most of us that have been boating since we were a kid would not even think of putting a carbon monoxide detector on a little open boat. But that being said the new generation of people are so completely over safe that I can definitely imagine them being standard in a few years. I have never ever have worn a helmet skiing I did complete out of bounds shit out west and everything it was never even a thought but now if you go to a ski mountain 95% of the people have a helmet on. On bicycles almost everyone has a helmet we would only put on the motorcycle helmet when we were jumping more than like 8 feet in the air on our bikes. We did this after we saw Evil Knievel do a jump. If we weren’t going on the highway and we’re just driving around the neighborhood we didn’t wear helmets on our motorcycles either. If we were not drag racing a car on a track we probably didn’t have our seatbelts on and we smoked non-filtered cigarettes because they were cool. Hell some cars did not have seat belts. We had bonfires on the beach smoked joints and went swimming naked in the ocean at midnight. Good thing some of us survived ? we need to get rid of cell phones the internet and go enjoy life again.
