Good evening!

New member here considering the purchase of a 2007 AR230 HO. Boat has less than 100 hours on it.

Where I will primarily be boating is the Potomac River which has a bit of a hydrilla problem. What I'd like to ask is if anyone else on this forum has had any problems boating in areas with hydrilla? Have there been any lasting effects? Have you ever seriously damaged something? Should I just look for something in a non-jet variety?

Thank you in advance for any advice that can be given!

-Zach

Welcome to the forum! I do not have the hydrilla problem here in Arizona, but I would not see any more of an issue with a jet vs. a prop boat, both can get wound up with weeds, the advantage of the jet is the intake grate will shield you a bit, but if you happen to suck up a lot of weeds there is the clean out plug you can remove to access the weeds to pull them out. I have been on small lakes with weed problems with outboard engines as well as trolling motors that have gotten wound up with weeds, it's a pain in the rear.

Yamaha 230's are great boats, I would verify the hours on the boat by taking it to a Yamaha Dealer to hook up the YDS Software to show you the actual hours. Unless this boat had hour meters installed when it was brand new, but it's always good to inspect what you expect.

Thank you for the information! I'm supposed to be able to lay hands on the boat on Monday. Pending it passing the eyeball test from the wife and I we'll be taking it somewhere that can pull diagnostics from the engines to see if there have ever been any issues.

Just out of curiosity - it's a 2007 AR230, sub 100 hours on the engines (supposedly), looks to be in fantastic shape, wake tower, etc. What would be a fair price? They are asking $25,500.

You would be buying a virtually brand new boat with those few hours.
Talk to people in your area and see if any are having issues with the plant life.

Does it have upgrades? Stereo/amp/ speakers on swim platform, subwoofer? Seadeck in lieu of carpet, etc? What's condition of trailer? Is it galvanized or painted? Tires dry rotted? Upgrades there? Bimini clean? Does it include covers? Snap or shipping ... These are the kinds of extra upgrades that folks have done to look for.

Will do - most people I've gotten advice from thus far aren't jet owners. One dealer even said I'd have an issue with it, but I think that may have been an attempt to try to get me to look at a more expensive boat.

Everything actually looks pretty good in the pictures. I don't see any speaker upgrades or anything major, looks pretty factory. Looks like it's got snap on covers as well as a full storage cover. Here is the listing... http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007-YAMAHA-AR-230-102805964

@zbrady107 it looks like a clean boat, taken care of inside and out which is a good sign. I don't see anything that is out of the ordinary with it. At that price point, it would be nice to have seen some of the typical upgrades that Bruce and or I mentioned in the thread. Perhaps there is some room for negotiation in price? Offer him 22k? It's difficult to gauge with the cost of the new boats factored in. Are you looking to buy and flip? I see in your profile you have a 2014 Limited S '24.

NADA has the boat in the $23,000 range. Judging by the picture that boat has never seen salt water. The winch has been replaced. Seems like a worthy consideration to me.

Looking to purchase as my first boat actually - I was initially looking to purchase a 14 Limited S and that didn't work out as the inspection came back with some serious issues. I'm thinking theres some room for negotiation. Depending upon how the visual inspection goes as well as YDS I was planning to offer 21.5-22k.

Solid. Keep us posted then once you have it you can come back here and get the details on the upgrades!!

I liked that the hose clamps were rust free and the clean out plugs were out. Are they throwing in the carpet?

If possible get the file for each YDS download and post it here. You will have to convert it to an Excel file.

I paid $ 24,000.00 cash for my 2008 SX 230 HO (no wake tower), it had 74 hours on it after I checked it with two lake trips, the AR230's bring a higher book value on NADA than the SX230's. If the hours are under 100 and the boat is clean, I would offer him a couple grand less and see what he says. Keep in mind that most banks will lend on boats up to 10 years of age, so in one more year if you decided to sell it, you will be dealing with cash buyers only - unless there are some banks who will lend outside the 10 year mark. They are great boats and you will probably want to keep it for many years.

Boat looks clean, good sign. Even better that the engine bay and engines look clean. Maybe they bought it with the best intentions of doing a lot of boating and it just never happened? Best you can hope for. Good luck, make sure you check back if you have any questions or something doesnt seem right.

Not sure what your budget is but I'm about to list my 2011 sx240 this weekend once I get some pics after I clean it up a bit. It has between 70-80 hours I spent 5k in boat and trailer upgrades this year I will be asking 29k.

Definitely will do. I've been eyeing the Yamaha boats for months... just now in a position to pull the trigger.

Agreed.. Engine compartment looks very clean in the photos. Not sure about the carpet, that was not discussed at this point in time yet.

Thank you for the info! I would prefer to get the newest boat possible so that if I do decide to upgrade then the age wouldn't be a deterrent to a potential next owner.

From what the broker said the gentleman bought it new and kept it at his lake house in a garage and only used it when his daughter would come to visit.

Welcome @zbrady107 check the members map and see if there's a member close to you. Maybe they'd be willing to go look at the boat with you and give some advice. Good luck with your search, keep us posted on what you find. Also take pics and post them if you see things that you have questions about.
