Considering purchase... insight wanted

@robert843
What a sweet deal. I don't think I've ever seen a 240 boat, and in such a great shape, listed for <30k

Thanks @swatski but those pics really do not do the boat justice its much nicer then those pics show after this weekend when I get shot to clean it up and take real photos it will look nice. 90% of those pics where from when upgrades were being done so they are a little bit of a mess.

Will do - most people I've gotten advice from thus far aren't jet owners. One dealer even said I'd have an issue with it, but I think that may have been an attempt to try to get me to look at a more expensive boat.

Everything actually looks pretty good in the pictures. I don't see any speaker upgrades or anything major, looks pretty factory. Looks like it's got snap on covers as well as a full storage cover. Here is the listing... http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007-YAMAHA-AR-230-102805964
@zbrady107 one thing to check would be the plastic scupper in the 7th photo. These have been known to crack and can cause water to pour into the boat. Not a deal breaker and not a too difficult job to replace with a stainless steel one. Plenty of posts on here for replacing and wrenches to borrow. Just wanted to point it out before you get on the water. See if they will let you put water in the hull with the drain plug in and see if any water leaks out. Then pull the drain plug. Anyway, looks like a real clean boat. I bought my '07 a little over 2 years ago for <25k with roughly 70 hours so I think you should be able to get it for what you are looking for. Good luck!

That looks like a nice, well cared for boat, great find! If you could only know what did the dealer pay for it.

Yeah, I'm sure you can get nicer pics, the boat looks great. But the point is I think you are pricing it right, which I think is the key.
Heck, that is tempting!
If you only didn't get me thinking about these new 2015- hulls... LOL

In 2011, I Purchased my 2008 SX230 with 10 hours w/YES for $26k. I sold it in 2015 with 70 hours for $19k. I got it for a great price and sold it fast for convenience of not having to deal with a protracted sales process , since my 242 LS was on its way. Just some data points.

My wife and I went and looked the boat over this evening. It looked very well taken care of. Interior was in immaculate condition and the exterior looked fantastic. We made the seller an offer of 22k (asking is 25.5k). Will see what he comes back with. I don't want to pay more than 24k after tax, tag, and title so if it doesn't work out oh, well! I'll find something eventually, no rush. I think at 24k out the door, that is a good deal on that boat... thoughts? Pending acceptance of the offer and agreeable terms we've got a tentative appointment at the local Yamaha dealership for an inspection and YDS readout.

Best of luck to you. Looks like a great deal if you can snag it at that price. Check it out from stem to stern before you buy, but if it's as good as it looks I think you'll be fine

I hate to be a contrarion, but his price is too high. The boat looks to be in great shape, however. Just as a point of reference, I bought a 2008 SX230 in 2013. The boat was purchased NEW in 2011 as a left over and still had 2 years left on the warranty when I bought it in 2013. 3 seasons ago! Therefore, when I bought it, it was only 2 years old, and had 26 hours on it. I paid 23,900 3 years ago. Sorry, but this guy is asking too much. I'd hold out at 22k and wouldn't move up. That is your out the door price. The boat is not worth what he is asking, I don't care what shape it is in. It is a buyer's market and you can walk. Believe it or not, it is a bi&*h to sell a used boat. Especially a 9 year old boat. Tell him your 22k included taxes and tags. Again, this is the same boat from 2007 to 2009, SX or AR - same thing, only difference being a tower on the AR. 22k out the door should be your max. NADA is 20,970. Even considering NADA is only a guide - truly - even at 22k he is too high. But for a lightly used boat in excellent shape? 22K out the door is a fair deal. If the boat is actually in Fairfax, I will be happy to meet up with you and take it for a run in the Potomac to check it out. I know the capabilities of this model inside out. Wed or Thur in the am works, just send me a PM. Don't want to rain on your parade and excitement, but 22k out the door is the absolute max I pay, and I make him throw in all his toys and lines, tubes, etc. Otherwise, walk. As I have stated on this forum before, if someone offered me 23K cash for my 2008 SX230, which is in pristine shape and less than 100 hours, I would sell and go shopping for another boat. By the way, don't sweat no warranty this is a bulletptoof boat which will last for years, with minimal maintenance. It seems the boat is parked at a dealer. If they won't let you take it on a run, I'd be wary. Let's go!

By the way, here is a much better deal on a newer boat in the same price range. Now you can see why this Boat Trader price is way too high. I'd actually withdraw my offer of 22K and say 21 out the door or good bye...and drive to SC for this one:

Thanks for the info! Will speak with the broker and update the offer... the boat in Charleston wouldn't be out of the question, we have family that live down there. There is actually another down there that has my eye as well.

As far as taking it for a run, they just asked that there be an agreed upon price and a $500 deposit if I show my financing approval from my bank - didn't seem to be an issue with taking it for a test drive.

Seller countered at 24.5k+tax, tag, and title. I declined and told him that I'll keep looking. The search continues...

That is crazy... But it is not surprising, unfortunately.
You will find a better one, no worries!

No big deal. The right boat will come along. Maybe this is the universe telling me to hold out and purchase a 14 or 15 AR240 or 242LS... who knows lol!

He can hold out. He won't get that price. Head to SC to look at those 2. There are plenty out there to be had. Love that they want a deposit (which you will have to fight to get returned when you say you don't want t the boat) to take the boat on a run. Screw them.
