Continued Cleanout Plug Blowout

No they do not void the warranty unless Yamaha determines that Tru-Locks cause the issue or malfunction. I'd venture to say that something else caused the excessive wear, but hard to imagine what since the boat is so new.

You may want to push down on the handle first, so that the plug is seated all the way down. Then push the button along with the handle to lock in place. I feel like in situations where the plug launched with Tru-Locks installed the plug could not have been locked in place all the way down. There is physically no way the plug can unlock itself with the Tru-Lock 2 installed properly.

A plug that doesn't seat correctly is VERY insidious and there is not much you can do about it. One day, it is locking and releasing fine. Then all of a sudden without warning, it is just a little tighter. And from that day on, you don't really know if you get them locked good enough or not. It could be swelling due to being in the water for a few days, or it could be crud formed on the surfaces of the plug/seal/and shell, along with the walls and seat of the aluminum seat neck. Cleaning will improve it, better to say, scrubbing. Maybe even using a scotchbrite pad and cleansers on the aluminum neck. But "most" plug blows start with reduced clearance, so that is how to stop them. The others are a failed design in the plug itself, where the lock actually unlocks from vibration. That is where the TruLocs and the EZ locks come in, they both stop that damn lock from releasing. Neither of them void the warranty directly, but like @JetBoatPilot said, if Yamaha determines the cause to be the modification, they will deny. Not likely either of these actually cause a blowout and could probably say would never, but never say never, right? If you manage to get the lock, either of them, to lock when the plug isn't seated good, you can still get a blowout with a locked plug. Not too likely, but it could happen. The silicone found in the dog recess, the worn dogs, crud and gunk, mineral deposits, and swollen components, can all contribute. But you pretty much know the day that they don't fit as easy as they used to.
