I am looking to have my boat detailed and have a couple minor repairs made to the gelcoat. I requested a quote from someone that came highly recommended from several other boaters. When he sent me the quote, he included the following description about the service which included an acid bath. Does anyone know if that's typical for a detail and/or if that's a good thing for a fairly new (2014) boat? Here is his exact verbiage:

"a full acid bath to strip stains, yellowing and any loose deterioration with cleaning and removal of rust in compartments followed by 2 stages of compounding for medium to light scratches and oxidation and finished with micro compounding and a marine grade wax all machine applied at 1100rpms to work into the pores of the gelcoat and taken off at 1800rpms to leave a deep long lasting sheen. Youll also receive machine polishing of your brightwork with cleaning and conditioning of vinyl and plastic trim!"

Acid washing hulls is not unusual when needed. Has your boat sat in the water for weeks at a time allowing for stuff to grow on the hull? If not then you are unlikely to need acid washing.

How much is the bid for detailing? Acid washing should not be expensive. Many members do it quickly as a DIY project.
