DIY Gelcoat Repair?

Saturday, we got forced to the edge of the road, leaving the ramp by about a 35' powerboat cutting the corner. The DNR had put up some temporary signs last week.

Long story short, we have about an 8' scratch on the starboard hull.

It's not real deep except the rear one, but not good. I don't know if insurance would cover it or not.

I don't have any experience doing gelcoat. Should I attempt the repair myself?

Look up Fish Bump TV on YouTube. The has a family run boat making shop and he's awesome. He has a lot of video tutorials on how to do work with gel coat.
