@GTBRMC were you able to install the bulb seal and get some results?
Not yet. I expect to be able to install it in the next couple of weekends but won't be on the water for a few weeks to test it, most likely. Although the air is warming in SE Wisconsin, the waters are still quite chilly.

Can someone show my a pic of their engine compartment that used pipe insulation? I bought a bunch of 1/2" and I can't get my hood to latch. Tried it on the doors to the battery compartment and opposite side. No luck there either.

OK, I see I never followed up on this. Sorry about that.

I will add pix later, but this mod was a HUGE WINNER! Family approved results with very low $ cost & scissors + peel & stick "installation." A fifth grader could do this, literally.

Note some occasional rework will likely be required, but it will be very low cost and easy, just a few minutes to do.

You are totally correct.

However, my boat and I are in different cities right now, so I will make it right next time I see her... which will likely be over the 4th weekend.

I feel your pain. . . mine is 2 hours away. Until SUNDAY. . . then she is all mine for 2 weeks straight.

Look at pwb's photos down this page at YJB... http://yamahajetboaters.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50166

I patterned my install after these pix, but had better luck with adhesion than he seemed to have. I wouldn't sweat the upper, aft corners too much. I found with my pipe insulation trials that sealing the air gap at the bottom of the engine room "hood" on either side of the latch release made the bulk of the improvement... and this area doesn't have the scissoring action when closing the hood that those upper, aft corners do. Check it out on your boat, I expect you'll see what I mean.
