Engine stalling

Have you had any fuel problems during the season? Are you getting your fuel from the same place?

Since, whatever this is, is affecting BOTH engines I'm leaning towards either a fuel problem or an electrical problem. Since it also occurred in the garage in favoring your fuel system.

That being said I believe you have the best plan forward, removing the push to start before really digging into it. Either way I'll stay tuned to this thread and wish you the best of luck with it.

Yeah - how old is the fuel? Could you bump the throttles after start or bump the RPM with "No wake" bump - would that help to keep the engines running?

Hey @SamCF - didn't you mention once you have had a fuel intake filter dirty/clogged? Do you think this could be an issue, from the symptoms?

The main symptom of my clogged fuel filter was sluggish acceleration. It would drive normally, but stumble when going to WOT. That could be the problem, but it is an undesirable job to get in there and clean it. I would check everything else first.

Do the twin boats have a fuel pump for each engine? It is odd that both engines are doing the same thing. Really makes me think it is a system that is shared between both engines. Maybe electrical or fuel.

The issue is identical with both engines. If i use the push button start both engines cut out after the same amount of time running. The boat has run fine out on the lake even with this issue.

Fresh gas I haven’t tried bumping the throttle because I know it will run the second time I start it.

Checked out the parts diagram here: https://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/54453b08f870020ad8f5d99a/fuel-tank

Looks like there is only 1 fuel pump for both engines. The fuel system is probably a good place to start troubleshooting if both engines shut down at the same time.

EDIT: I'm not sure now after looking closer at the diagram. Maybe it has 2 pumps.
It shows 2 pumps. I’m leaning towards something electrical due to the apparent timing involved with how long both engines run. It’s a clean shut down like turning off the key.

Before attempting to troubleshoot anything, check your batteries. Top off the fluid, and charge with a smart charger. If you still have a problem, change the spark plugs and be sure to make sure the oil is not overfilled.

Did this issue ever get resolved? My 2013 242 does the same thing it takes 2 starts before both engines will stay running when cold, but after that they start the first time every time for the remainder of the day.
