I have been flushing after running on the local fresh water lake, but I am wondering if this is really worth it... I live in the cty of Clearwater and our water not only comes with all the goodies in it that normal city water does, but it also runs through a softener... It could be more harmful than the local lake water. ;)

Anway... I thought I would take a poll on it.

I flush due to the amount of sediment in the lakes.

No flushing except for the one time before i put in garage for winter. My boat was bought from a guy who used in salt so i only do it because of that. I will tell you that salt can corrode the inside pretty badly pretty quickly!

Most of our boating is on the second or third cleanest lake in the US. There is very little difference in boating and flushing with city water for us. Even after salt water trips we just bring her home and take her out for a long day on the lake to get the salt out.

If there was a lot of small debris on my local lake or there was silt near the ramp I would make a habit of flushing.

I have strainers so I just empty those out in between each fresh water run. I also blow the water out by running the engines for 10 seconds like everyone does

Some fresh water lakes have high mineral content that can solidify in your cooling jackets and become more of an issue than salt. Know your water and figure out if flushing makes sense.

I do not flush, we boat mostly on lakes fed by the Colorado River, just blip the throttles and it's good.
