First time buyer here looking for a center console, do all, family boat. Comparing some used scarab 195 open ids with new yahama fsh 210. One thing that baffles me about the fsh is why wouldn't they throw a tow point on the t top? Scarab seems to take the cake (as far as this category) with the built in tow point and fold down capabilities but still not enough to get me off of a new fsh. The fsh 210 with a tow point and fiberglass top would be such a nice feature.. I've seen the deluxe model uplifted with the fiberglass top but I have my doubts of the stability from what I've read.

The reason it isn't recommended is that there isn't any lateral bracing side to side on the tower. it's connected at the top, and then to the floor. a swaying load can put a lot of stress on it. It's a shame, but adding the braces would take away either view, or comfort in the seat probably... unless they ran it through the console compartment, which would be awkward also I think.

I've posted about it before - but I tow from my rod holders. 100% of the time for surfing (which isn't too much stress) and also for wakeboarding including a 230 lb+ rider. I've not had any issues and I do check the tower connections on the fiberglass for signs of stress. No issues.

The lateral bracing is definitely an issue on these towers. Not from towing necessarily, but from rough water, there's a significant amount of side to side movement. Cruising in anything over 1' chop it wiggles back and forth enough to contact the windshield. Engineering-wise, there can be reason to allow something to sway instead of making it extra rigid but I would definitely like less side-to-side movement.

If I were to do it all over again, I would buy a deluxe and use the price difference to get a custom tower fabricated. Super easy to find fabricators in coastal areas. You could get one with a solid tow point as well as one that folds for towing and storage. Add in lights, storage boxes, etc. as you desire.

I think the idea of a custom build onto a deluxe would be the preferable way to go as long as you didn't get hosed on the price. Can't imagine putting 8-10 k into a boat that only runs 45k.. that being said as a first timer here, the sport is probably perfectly fine for my needs. Money better spent on fishing technology and gear for the kiddos.
