We bought our 2008 SX230 HO a couple of days ago, it was a recession holdover boat that was not sold new until 2012. The guy I bought it from said it has three summers of use on it, have not checked the hours as I need to order the YDS Software and Cable.

So I am in the process of getting it ready for lake duty.

Completed:
New Tires & Spare
Changed Oil & Filters in both Engines. Oil was very dirty.
Fixed loose tow hook.
Cleaned engine bay.
Checked all functions of boat, all operating.
Checked all trailer lights, all functioning.
Installed new Spark Plugs
Filled tank with fresh fuel and a few bottles of Techron to clean the fuel injectors.

To Do List:
Check all bearings, races, seals. Repack bearings if all good.
Tighten Bunk Bolts
Lube Jet Pump Zerk Fittings
Clean Interior & Wax Exterior
Install New Battery, one is good, one is bad.
Weld Bow Stop Brace in place, these MFI Trailers suck when it comes to the older bow stops.
Check and Tighten all Cleats
Check for any loose nuts or bolts everywhere.
Install (2) New Deck Latches, one was broken on clean out hatch and the ski locker - On Order.
Install New Strap for swim ladder, current one is broken - On order.
Install Cobra Venom Ultimate Fins & E-Z Locks - On order.

So what am I overlooking? It has been six years since we got rid of our 2006 SX230 ;)

YETI? Beer? My invitation?

  • You mentioned the bow stop.. how about the roller? Could be rather aged.
  • how are the transom boat buckles?
  • how are the brakes?
  • btw (imho) I blue Loc-tite all of the bolts. Helps... at least I think it does.

Take a peek at your scupper, I believe that is a good plan to change to stainless on the 230's.

Roller is good.
Boat buckles are good.
Brakes are good.
I will use some blue loctite, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, I will take a look at it.

Man, the original spark plugs were nasty, glad I changed them out.

I would pull out bilge pump and clean strainer along with op checking if not. Doing zerks you may want to pull the tube and push all old grease out of the tube and start fresh. Sunscreen and have fun!!! And pics on the water or it never happened!

Thanks for the extra tips, we are taking her out this weekend, I will bring my waterproof camera and take some pics of her floating on the lake.

Make sure life vests are good. Date on fire extinguisher and has charge. All other requirements as well for the boat you checked the lights?

Yep, all good with the above items!!

Well how bout a bottle of champagne or sparkling cider along with netting to christen your new ride.

Congrats and welcome back to the jet world.

I am a bit pissed off this morning, working on the bearings, go to take the first tire off and Discount Tire cross threaded two of the lugs nut, both bolts snapped in half getting the lug nuts off. This is on the rear with the disk brake on it, FML this morning.
