Going to check out a 2014 195 - What do I look for?

Hi,

Going to look at a 2014 Scarab 195 with the thought of possibly purchasing.

Owned one boat years ago. What are some of the things I should look for on this model? I read on here that there may some quality issues for this year/model?

Guessing it makes good sense to pay for a pro to do a pre-purchase inspection?

I can't speak to this model specifically, but things I would check:

- impeller and ring
- loose hardware
- check for loose screws (i.e. stripped fiberglass)
- steering operates smoothly
- hull damage (holes filled in, cracks, gauges, previous work done, don't forget to check inside of ski locker/anchor locker)
- vinyl damage
- of course, general operation of the engine, acceleration, etc.
- sound system, each speaker working
- bilge pumps (dump water in it and try it)
- blower working
- age of battery (batteries)

Of course some of these aren't deal breakers, but may provide negotiating power and you can be at least aware of any issues.

Assuming it has 200 HP or more, I'd look into how many hours are on the super charger. Can be costly to have it rebuilt.
Definitely take it for a test drive.
